Video Marketing and Its Potential

It is estimated that over 400 million people discover, watch and
share videos online through popular platforms like YouTube and
MySpaceTV. It creates a very viable channel for original
creators and advertisers to reach a world-wide audience with
such efficiency and speed that the only Internet can offer.

In the United States alone, about 100 million viewers watch 5.3
billion videos on YouTube. In Canada, more than 1.6 billion
videos were viewed on YouTube each month. Average video
viewing time is 300 minutes per month in the US and about 600
minutes in Canada.

According to a US site stats from Nielson Ratings,

  • 18% of YouTube users are the age of 18
  • 20% 18 to 24 years of age
  • 19% 35 to 44 years of age
  • 23% 45 to 54 years of age
  • 20% Over 55 years of age

Income Levels

  •   6 % earn less than $25,000 a year
  •   20 % earn $25,000 to $49,000
  •   25% earn $50,000 to $79,000
  •   19% earn $75,000 to $99,000
  •   18% earn $100,000 to $149,000
  •   10% make $150,000 or more


Fifty-two percent are male and 48 percent are female. Forty-two
percent have higher education and 13 percent postgraduate
degrees. As online video sharing has become more diverse so is
the audience. Many are looking into self-help or how-to videos
to gain knowledge or to share experiences with others.
According to YouTube internal data for February 2009, more
than 15 hours of video were being uploaded every minute. With
hundreds of new videos uploaded daily it is not surprising that if
you want to know the latest information the first thing to key the
button on your computer is YouTube. It is so simple and easy.
With YouTube making it so simple to share videos with other
social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter information
can get viral. It is out of YouTube that many raw talents are
discovered.

With this type of Video Sharing platform it creates a very
powerful and significant tool for advertisers and publishers to
promote and sell their services and goods not only locally but
globally. A very significant technology that has come out of this
is a software that converts text messages or articles into Videos
