1. Retaining the leadership Position
By Saumitra yadav
Who is a leader? The one who commands following. As far as business leadership is concerned, it is all about Brand Value, market share & power to change the business atmosphere to its own advantage.
Brand, Consumers, Dealer’s & the most important employees are an integral part of making an organization as Leader. Brand because this is what makes you different from others. A brand is nothing but a mix of Trust a consumer has in your product, strong desire of the consumer to bye your product, last but not the least pride of possessing your product.
Building a brand as leader in the market depends on so many factors. Once the brand established itself as a leader in the market then there are some factors which keep it as a leader for future.
Non emergence of other similar products which consumer finds more attractive,
Keeping the brand alive by constantly making it visible & within the reach of consumers,
Good after sales service,
Choosing the right outlets to sell your products.
Availability of your product on constant basis at the selling point.
Dealers are the one of the key player in keeping your brand on a leadership position. Even if your Brand is very strong & has a strong consumer pull, an unsatisfied dealer can make a dent in your sales by constantly recommending competitor’s product to the consumers. It is very important to keep the interest of dealer’s alive in selling your product. Why would dealer sell your product on priority?
Strong brand pull
A fairly good profit margin
Good back up support on service after sales
Keeping the brand pull for a long time is very important for retaining the leadership position in the market. How you do it. This requires constant market research, changing consumer behavioral pattern, keeping the close tab on competitor’s product, constant innovation & up gradation on existing product. The visibility factor is also very important. Your brand should be visible by way of having media presence, constant interaction with consumer’s & selling points. As there is a saying “out of sight Out of mind “.
A businessman must earn a fair profit otherwise why he would be in business. Remember we are also in business to make profit. Why would a dealer sell your product if he does not make money out of it? It may be a debatable question how much profit is enough but I would say a reasonable one is good enough. Somebody may ask this question if profit is important then dealer interest will lie more with a supplier who provides more profits. Please understand profit is important but a business is not only done for profits. There are other factors involved, reputation of supplier, after sales service, long term business profit.
The most important factor for any company to retain its leadership position is employees. It is the employee who make or breaks a company. It would be a mistake if we presume that employee would from there own be a leader in whatever they do or there responsibilities are. Employee needs constant inspiration & motivation to do there beast. Inspiration comes from recognizing there talent & ability to generate extra ordinary output in any given scenario. Motivation comes from understanding there feelings & requirements for necessary inputs & providing them it with touch of praise & affection. Constant training & development enables employee to upgrade for future challenges.
Last but not the least is the Flexibility. Rigidity is another name of slow death of change. Change is on static factor which is nobody can change. It is bound to happen. Those who shows flexibility adapts the change & move ahead, those who don’t just gradually moves ahead for the slow corporate death.
