Thank you for attending the Yellowfin 5.1 launch today. This launch is aimed for an hour or less based on questions received. What we plan cover in this session are some of the highlights of 5.1 and the benefits that we believe will be delivered by some if the new features. Firstly Why 5.0? When we have barely made a dent in the 4’s Well this is a milestone release. There have been a set of significant improvements to Yellowfin that will make it easy to use, faster to deploy. The theme for 5 is CONNECT MAP & VISUALISE - since we believe we have made it easier than ever to connect to your data source , map the business layer and then visualise your data. In terns of interaction can we ask you to please use the question asking facility that you see in the gotowebinar console. We will endeavour to answer all your questions as we go through today’s session. If we cannot respond we will try and get back to you after the session with answers to your specific queries.
Our world is changing. It is more connected, people and businesses are interconnected and work is increasingly distributed From the technology perspective the the internet consumer experience means that worked expect a high degree of interactivity in their applications, expect access to real time data and are increasingly using mobile devices to access that data.
So lets take the time to talk about how BI will be delivered.
What’s driving this change Again it is what users are experiencing as consumers that is driving this adoption The iPhone and now the iPad are having a huge impact in the way users expect to use these devices Applications and constant access to data creates an expectation that organizations will deliver the same. BI applications that are no longer tied to a think client and support the end user BI consumer can take advantage of these platforms for delivery.
The new paradigm demands anywhere, anytime access to BI 99.9% of BI will be delivered via the web to pcs and mobile devices Users will use multiple devices to access the same shared content.
The real winners of this are the Company executives, sales team and field workers These users can now access their data any where and any time they need it.
Yellowfin delivers a BI platform that supports this trend to mobile BI Shared content, Secure, Filtering etc. All of these provide the functionality that BI consumers expect from their Mobile BI applications.
The biggest change in the way BI solutions will be used will be the use of Social media technologies within a BI solution.
One of the major drivers in the social BI is the google-isation of BI What I mean by this is the effect of experiences that users have when on the web and not at work. Google has had a huge influence on the way people expect to view data. Google analytics, Google finance and google maps have had a huge impact on the User Interface and expected layout of data – with especially the map component influencing location intelligence.
Take the google experience and now marry that with social media sites such as facebook, twitter, digg and flickr. These sites are essentially knowledge channels that help people to share whats important to them. So what are enterprises doing about this?
Well 73% of European companies said they would be implementing an enterprise wide social network within the next 18 months How will this work in the context of BI?
Social BI revolves around the data. Allowing people to search for, share and comment on data within the organization.
Sharing is one of the major element of Social BI Reports and data is the content that users want to share with one another. That want to access and share via a BI portal, their enterprise portal such as sharepoint and increasingly wikis
With Yellowfin you can share content in an increasing set of ways – from a simple export file or email to integrated web services. The most exciting development for us is the 5.1 feature of being able to share content via a simple java script method.
Yellowfin connect allows the user – without any IT knowledge to share live/active reports in other mediums such as wikis etc. These live reports support drill down, filtering and exporting And best of all it is all achieved with a simple ‘you tube’ style of sharing content.

Beyond sharing users are wanting to collaborate in their BI environment to comment and discuss the data and the trends they see and determine what this means for their business or job.
One of the more interesting ways to capture shared knowledge is the ability to annotate data. This is the means to actually inform users what were the business events that actually drove these trends. In this release there have been significant improvements to the way in which annotations function. Annotations can now span the organization globally or data sets – they are no longer tied down to a single report. They can be tagged for filtering on things such as marketing annotations versus external shocks. Annotations will change the way users will view their data.

Brand new to 5.1 is the introduction of a discussion forum into Yellowfin. So unlike the current comment on a report function this module allows people to have general discussions but then embed reports into those comments. This allows them to discuss a topic and add multiple reports to that discussion to help them to discuss and share knowledge.
But even with the discussion there is something missing. Many years ago the marketing manager for traditional BI vendor told me that there’s no ROI from a BI tool without a decision! How to we investigate How do we decide Why isn’t decision making part of the BI tool?
Well with Yellowfin 5.1 it is. The decision widget allows users to conclude a discussion. To make a recommendation based on the data To make a collective decision on that recommendation and allow people to act! At last a way to tie in all the activities surrounding BI together.
