3. Missions is OUR Purpose
If the primary purpose or goal of God for the world,
the redemption of all nations, then it must be
cultivated as the primary purpose of every one of
his followers.
You are especially equipped to touch people from
other cultures because you…
– Already know how to cross cultures
– Are maybe from or are near to an unreached culture
already and know how to operate in it
– Can go to other cultures that other Christians can’t

4. Five Habits in Becoming a World

5. Going
―The calling of the missionary to the heathen
is a glorious high calling. He who thinks
himself above it, ought not to call himself a
follower of Christ‖ – Samuel Mills, 1806

A definition of the goer is the person
physically present, laboring cross-
culturally on the mission field. (or
something related to crossing cultures
where gospel cannot be heard)

Exodus 3:7-12
7The LORD said, quot;I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have
heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned
about their suffering. 8 So I have come down to rescue them from the hand
of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and
spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the
Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. 9 And now
the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the
Egyptians are oppressing them. 10 So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh
to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.quot;
11 But Moses said to God, quot;Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring
the Israelites out of Egypt?quot;
12 And God said, quot;I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I
who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you [a]
will worship God on this mountain.quot;
13 Moses said to God, quot;Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, 'The
God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, 'What is his
name?' Then what shall I tell them?quot;
14 God said to Moses, quot;I am who I am . [b] This is what you are to say to the
Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you.' quot;

• Prayer to touch the world is a Priority for

he had compassion on them, because they
were harassed and helpless, like sheep
without a shepherd. Then he said to his
disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful but the
workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest,
therefore, to send out workers into his
harvest field.'quot;

• Most movements and revivals began with
a few people beginning to pray fervently
and regularly
– New York Prayer revival 1857

– Moravians 1722

• Why is prayer so important in touching the
world, in ministry in general?
• What was the focus of Jesus prayer? Where is
your focus?
• What is your prayer life like? What would it take
to truly see a prayer movement in your heart of
purposeful intercession for the nations that
would spill out to your community?
• What are some strategies for improving your
prayer life in terms of quality and quantity?

14. Sending
quot;Do not think me mad. It is not to make
money that I believe a Christian should
live. The noblest thing a man can do is,
just humbly to receive, and then go
amongst others and give.quot; - David
Livingstone
quot;And how can they preach unless they are
sent?quot; (Rom. 10:15).

15. Sending
• In our culture we think we are entitled to
live at whatever standard matches our
income.
• Maybe when a Christian gets a raise or
comes into unexpected financial gain, God
intends that person to be a resource for
someone else!

16. Different ways to send
• Finances - the most obvious aspect of sending is giving of one's
financial resources to support a missionary.
• Logistics - A specialist in logistics deals with the practical side of
sending. They deal with packing the missionary's goods, travel
plans, cost and acquirement of items needed on the field.
• Prayer coordination - The prayer coordinator can find specific
prayer needs based on research, missionaries in the field and
missions societies. They are also needed to enlist others in
intercessory prayer for the team and organize prayer meetings.
• Communications - It is their responsibility to open lines of
communication to the team so that prayer requests and equipment
and other needs are known.

17. Sending
―How different are World Christians from other Christians? In some ways, very
little. They still spend much of their time doing day-to-day chores, filling their
role in life (being a parent, spouse, friend), fulfilling the requirements of a
job, fixing things around the house. They too work on character issues in
their own life… But in other ways, they are very different. The World
Christian uses his free time differently, keeping in mind a global
perspective…He spends his finances wisely, freeing up more money for the
global expansion of the kingdom. He always envisions how his ministry and
activities can somehow result in eventually having an impact in the nations.
Living a World Christian lifestyle as a sender doesn’t mean taking a vow of
poverty – since poverty isn’t necessarily spiritual and wealth isn’t
necessarily unspiritual. But being good stewards of money as we seek first
the Kingdom of heaven is definitely a mark of a World Christian sender…the
lifestyle of a globally significant sender isn’t mostly about money. It’s about
character.‖

Every great mobilizer thinks in terms of three
areas:
• Motivation – Why do we need to do reach
people cross culturally based on God’s word?
• Information – What information is available to
pass on to others?
• Attention – How do I follow up someone who
God seems to be touching to be accountable in
following through with what they feel?

• What is a mobilizer?
• How can you act as a mobilizer? What are some
ways to get people excited about missions?
• Who are some people you know who need to be
mobilized?
• What are the three areas that good mobilize has
to think in?
• How can you specifically develop each those
areas in your life?
