Why Carbon Neutral?
Global warming is a serious problem and
that’s why we are working to decrease
carbon emissions. So why not go carbon
neutral? We’ll not only save money but
we’ll also help create a healthier planet.
4. Practical Problem
The Yarra Energy Foundation (YEF) is non-profit
organization in Melbourne that wants to reduce
greenhouse gas emissions and achieve carbon
neutrality in the City of Yarra by 2020. In order to
achieve this, the YEF needs to evaluate the best
options for building a strong workforce and find ways
to reduce residents’ energy usage.
5. Mission Statement
The goal of this project is to assist the Yarra Energy
Foundation to reduce the carbon footprint of the city of
Yarra by assessing the role the local workforce plays in
order to thoroughly evaluate the available options of
retrofitting the buildings in Yarra.

options.
To evaluate possible retrofit options for the city of Yarra.
To develop a matrix of social initiatives comparing
businesses, community, and government concerns, against
social, economic, environmental, cultural, and civic
concerns.

workforce in performing the retrofit of the buildings in
Yarra.
7. Key Issues
We want to achieve carbon neutrality, how do we…..
do so with renewable resources
work alongside organizations with similar goals
utilize a workforce
decide which buildings should be renovated first and if
they should be accessible to the public during upgrades
renovate historical buildings
work with homeowners in the logistics of renovating
their homes
