PhD position in Computational Chemistry available at the Max-Planck-Institute in Germany.
The Setting
Being part of a larger Collaborative Research Center (InPROMPT, www.inprompt.tu-berlin.de), top research
groups from Berlin, Dortmund and Magdeburg collaborate to design and improve processes in homogeneous
catalysis of industrially relevant reactions.
The Max-Planck-Institute is world class research institution at the interface of chemistry, biology and
engineering.
The MSD group (http://www.mpi-magdeburg.mpg.de/msd) is applying and developing computational tools and
techniques to elucidate structures and mechanisms of complicated chemical and biological systems.
Pre-requisites
We are looking for a PhD candidate with a strong background in computational chemistry and physical
chemistry.
He/she should be familiar with quantum chemical algorithms and tools, have knowledge of programming
languages (such as C, C++, python and other scripting tools) and be open to interdisciplinary research.
The Project
The project involves the elucidation of complex reaction mechanisms in different solvents with designed
properties. A use of QM, QM/MM plus solvent modeling methods will be applied and developed. Microkinetic
transition state theory will be used and benchmarked with macrokinetics from strong experimental
collaborators.
Hiring is initially for a period of two years but may be extended for another two years. Payment is according to
German pay role in the public sector.
Please apply online with CV, statement of experience in named research area and names of two referees….
Don't forget to mention Naturejobs when applying.
