Things to see
Alt Empordà is a region with a great cultural
and landscape wealth, marked by its
geographic location in the most northeastern
area of the Iberian Peninsula, has converted it
into an area of passage (persons, goods, etc.).
Its natural boundaries are the Pyrenees, the
Mediterranean Sea, and the plains of the
Empordà that joins it with the Baix Empordà
and the area of Alta Garrotxa. All of these
aspects make the landscape of Alt Empordà a
unique place that joins the sea and the
mountains that along with the north wind, have
marked the culture, gastronomy, traditional
trades and the mood of the town that has
been established for thousands of years.

The dolmens and menhirs of the area of Albera
and Cap de Creus stand out as the most
notable places of our history, as well as the
Greco-Roman remains of Empúries and the
Citadel of Roses. From this medieval era, we
find Romanic churches, the monastery of
Vilabertran and of Sant Pere de Rodes, the
latter being the greatest exponent. Of later
era, we have the gothic style Cathedral of
Castelló d’Empúries, the fortification of Sant
Ferran in Figueres and some modernist
buildings, until reaching our times with the
genius of Salvador Dalí and this Theater
Museum of Figueres and house in Portlligat.


The sorroundings of the hotel
• Alt Empordà is an extraordinary region
regarding its natural patrimony. To note,
it is the only region of Catalonia that has
three classified natural areas in an area
of only 100 km2.
Aside from the parks, in Alt Empordà
there are many natural areas to fully
enjoy contact with natural and outdoor
activities. A region full of life in a natural

space. A region crossed by flowing rivers
that allow the practice of sports,
mountains for hiking and mountain
biking; reservoirs and lagoons for water
sports.
• Mas Sant Joan (built in the XVI Centruy)
is situated close to Figueres, next to the
Empúries ruins, two steps from the
Pyrinées and right on the Roses bay.

The facilities

• The hotel houses 39 rooms including 3
double rooms, 36 twin rooms, 39 non-
smoking rooms. A great feeling of space
with light-filled rooms, shady terraces
and gardens bathed in sunshine. You
stay in the privacy of the "masias", each
with a few bedrooms and set a little

apart from the main house whose
vaulted rooms were once inhabited by
nobles. Everywhere colour, substance,
fabrics and light tell the story of an
ancient Mediterranean civilisation.

• In the afternoon we will take a bike from the hotel to Sant Martí D’Empúries, a very nice stroll along
the most beautiful landscapes of Costa Brava. Welcome drink in Castelló d’Empúries ruins.
(Estimated duration of the bike ride: 1.30hrs, 1 hour visiting the Roman ruins)
• Before dinner we suggest to do a CAVA CHALLENGE, a funny blind tasting where the participants
will have to decide what is best: a cava or a champagne.
• Dinner at the hotel (example):

Jam and nuts cannelonni with red berries

Today we will make lunch ourselves. Directed by our chef and accompanied by our
gastronomes we will elaborate a delicious meal with the following menu:

• Afterwards we will leave the hotel to go to Dali Museum and later we will have a wine
tasting accompanied with Spanish Hams in a winery of the Wine Area (D.O.) Empordà.
• Back to the hotel to enjoy dinner.
• Free time to enjoy the facilities. We can suggest a Whisky tasting

Our selection of wineries
• Food wine tours has selected a range of wineries where to develop a
few of your activities in the territory where you are accommodated.
When you start a tale in the Catalan tradition you
would say: Heus aquí una vegada…Once upon
a time there was a place where people and
earth worked together. There was an earth where
the Greeks planted seeds (which are the llavors in
our language) of a great history. There were the
soils (sòls in Catalan) that saw grew up the
vineyard and olive cultivation. Here is where
tradition and the search for authenticity go
together. This is the way, with hope, that the

image takes colour and the darkness breaks.
This is a small vineyard and olive grove in the core
of Empordà, in Mollet de Peralada. It is also a
young familiar company fruit of the effort and
dreams come true. The origin of this project
traces back to 2002 when two old Carignan and
Grenache vines – aged between 50 and 75 –
were purchased. So far, more and more vines
have been planted up to the almost 30 ha. The
project was consolidated in 2006 with the
construction of the cellar and the making of the
first wines. Since 2009 the winery belongs to one
of the first wineries that have entered to the
Integrated system of cultivation respectful with
the environment.

Cooking Team Bulding
• Paella is the most famous authentic national dish of Spain.
Come and learn how to prepare this wonderful and tasty
meal.
• The group will be divided in teams that will have to make the
paella following the instructions in the recipe and led by the
chefs that will be helping and supporting.
• Once the paellas are finished, they will be blind tasted and
judged on different criteria by the master chef.

Includes:

• A dish of the paella made by the participants
• Dessert: crema catalana
• White wine, bottled mineral water and coffee.
