The oil was found in 1968 and they started construction of the trans Alaskan pipeline in the 1973 and it was completed in 1977 and the oil runs down in to the docks and is transported by oil tankers.

The vessel spilled 10.8 million U.S. gallons (about 40 million litres) of Prudhoe Bay crude oil into the sea, and the oil eventually covered 11,000 square miles (28,000 km2) of ocean.
