Digital Storytelling
What is digital storytelling? 	Digital storytelling is the process of writing/creating a story, and adding the multimedia elements of voice, imagery, and or music.
What do students learn? The process of digital storytelling provides a high-quality learning experience because the learning experience honors the writing process first.  The inclusion of the technology into the process represents a “value-added” approach.
Digital Storytelling . . . helps students write more effectively by permitting the visualization of the writing. provides an authentic personal learning experience student  investment is greatly increased resulting in a higher motivation to use the language
Winter Intensive  Digital Stories 	Winter Intensive Digital Stories created by our students will contain ,[object Object]
Alternatively, students can use a video camera to make their digital stories.,[object Object]
Creating Digital Stories 	Students will create one piece of their digital story for the homework in each lesson.  They will need to write a reflection on each reading and each video for each class. They will need to find one image for each reading and each video.  Teachers will need to help students to ensure accurate language use.
Creating Digital Stories Students should form groups of 5-6 Each digital story will consist of about 24 images. Each student is responsible for at least 4 images and must narrate each image(3-4 sentences).  Each digital story will be approximately 2 minutes and 45 seconds, which means 5-6 seconds for each image/narration.
The students will have a prewritten text to read for their audio narration. Students will search for images using Google or Yahoo. Students can use a voice recording program to record their narration. Gathering media content
Creating their Digital Stories Students can use Windows Movie Maker, Photo Story, or a program of their choice to create the digital story  Teachers will provide a short lesson on the basics of using Windows Movie Maker Alternatively students can use their own videos instead of images.
Submitting Projects Bring USB memory stick to class and copy to teacher’s USB memory stick. Email attachment Copy to a CD 	At the end of the term, teachers will upload the best digital story from their class to Blackboard.
Grading Project will be graded on the following criteria: Reflective Journal Worksheets Feedback & Revisions Purpose & Evidence  Accuracy of English used Final Product: Digital Story
Sample Digital Story
Each answer should be at least 3 sentences (5-6 second narration).  You can sub the form with  a paper based journal.
Project Day 1 Break the students into groups of five or six Explain the Digital Story Process to each group, tell them about Photostory and  	Movie Maker  Have each group choose a topic from the textbook  Have the students complete the handout, the teacher should offer a tremendous  	amount of language support The teacher should collect the worksheets at the end of class and correct the  	language/offer students advice on their projects.
Project Day 1 Hand Outs  Collect and Correct
Project Day 2 Students should have the first draft of their  	digital stories. Have them type the script before the project  	day, they should submit the script on project day and the 	teacher should revise it and edit it.  Teachers should have the groups play their digital stories once and give them advice on them.  Teachers should focus on pronunciation of the scripts in this  	stage.
