improve my communica7ve and cri7cal
thinking skills, it also exposed me, and my
fellow students, to the diversity of culture
at each museum, and it allowed for our
access to future work outside in the
community, rela7ng to the last goal:
ethics and social responsibility.

34. Giving a tour meant that we had to have the
informa7on down. We had to have a deep
understanding of the art in order to be able to present to
others. Within this project we not only had to
communicate informa7on to the people we were giving
the tours to, but we also had to communicate with each
other as tour guides in order to make a cohesive and
seamless tour through the three different exhibits within
the museum.

35. I actually quite enjoyed giving/receiving tours of the local
art ins7tu7ons. I felt like I learned a lot more when I heard
informa7on shared and filtered through the minds and
mouths of people around my age. Sure, some7mes it is
wonderful to use and hear colorful and higher level
speaking, but it’s hard to beat straight to the point
language which everyone can digest and understand. It may
also be that we got to express and share art in our
language, rather than the language of someone well‐versed
and educated in the realm of art. If you do have a love of art
the passion shows through your language and oMen 7mes it
can lose those who don’t share your flame. In this project
we had a mix of all levels of the art‐loving (or not) spectrum
which made for a very interes7ng experience.

Kress FoundaLon InterpreLve Fellow
The Kress FoundaLon has funded a nine‐month
InterpreLve Fellow who will take on several projects
within the Portland Art Museum’s EducaLon
Department.
One of the tasks of the fellow is to work closely with
Freshman Inquiry faculty to deepen the relaLonship
between PSU and the Museum.
