Creating A Sport
Essential/Unit/Content Questions  Essential Question How can physical activities help us be healthy? Unit Question How do you create a physical activity that is fun and engaging? Content Questions How do you create a fair scoring system? How do you create a fair rule set? What is the best equipment to use for the physical activity?
Summary of Unit  Have groups of students design a new sport from scratch. They create there own rules and implement any equipment they see fit.
Role of the Teacher The role of a teacher should be as a mediator. The teacher should help students who have questions and also assess how each student is progressing through their work and their projects.
Role of the Parent Parents should make sure their children are doing there school work and are doing well in school. Parents should keep in contact with their children’s teachers especially if that child has a discipline problem. Also, parents should also actively help there children with projects at home and instill the importance of education for the child’s future.
Role of the Student A student must take responsibility for his work and his actions in school. It is important for a student to realize his/her weaknesses and find out ways to overcome them or improve them. Students must also find ways to stay motivated in order to complete their work.
Benefits of the Unit Encourage healthy activities Improve communication and collaboration Improves creativity Improves leadership and responsibility
Standards Utilize safe practices when participating in physical activities. Accept the responsibility as a leader or follower to accomplish group goals.
Objectives Develop a rule system that allows competing teams to have equal advantage. Every team member must have an individual position. Every activity must have a scoring system. Every activity must utilize at least 1 piece of equipment.
Questions What is Project-Based-Learning? It is any type of learning that involves hands-on experience with solving problems in there respective subjects. Most of these projects involve group teamwork to be able to effectively discover and solve there projects. How Will It Be Used? Students will complete several collaborative projects throughout the semester starting with the project described in this newsletter.
