26. Working with copy
• Take what you see
– Transcribed data will likely more closely resemble
what‟s on your piece
– Therefore, it will be easier to recognize a match
between your piece and a record
• Accept what you get
– RDA is flexible
– Catalogers judgment
– Institutional policy
This is your official welcome.I’m Beth Thornton…..The focus of this class is the MARC record itself. What are the new fields? How does it differ from an AACR2 MARC record? How do you update it?
Note that we are still using MARC for cataloging. Just creating records using different instructions
Note the word Instructions. Not calling them rules anymore.Show the toolkit. and table of contents.important to note here that best practice in applying RDA is still a work in progress. The JSC is still processing change requests. I think the RDA records we see now will evolve. This will be obvious as we start to look at examples. Already practice is evolving.
Field: denoted by the marc tagIndicators further refine the meaning/ function of the fieldA field can have one or more subfields.Subfields denoted by dilemeters. Note that delimeter signs can be $ or | or ……ISBD punctuation: for now we’ll still use it!
This one is one of the JSC examples you can find at RDA Toolkit.
