• The pitch is 4 minutes long
• Review last year’s format for ideas

• Create the pitch in PowerPoint or save in PowerPoint
format
• Avoid sounds & distracting transitions
• Spell check and avoid too much text

• Know your audience
• Simple design
• One idea per slide
• Use images to support ideas in pitch– don’t use a lot
of text
• Be organized – beginning, middle, end
How to start your deck
• Start with plain formatting
• 1st draft - focus on information
• 2nd draft - visual appeal of your message
• Add necessary graphics and quotes to reinforce your
message

• Add screenshots of your app
• Add relevant photos
• Include graphics such as your competitor analysis and
screenshots of your app
• Less text is better!
Generate some buzz
• Get people talking and
show you are on to
something

  • 10. How to start your deck • Start with plain formatting • 1st draft - focus on information • 2nd draft - visual appeal of your message • Add necessary graphics and quotes to reinforce your message
  • 11. Visual tips for slide deck • Add screenshots of your app • Add relevant photos • Include graphics such as your competitor analysis and screenshots of your app • Less text is better!
  • 12. Generate some buzz • Get people talking and show you are on to something • You love it, me too! • Use social media to spread the word • Build trust from investors

  2. The PowerPoint Presentation is the visual representation of a team’s business plan. Students will upload their finished PPT to Slideshare.net for judges to easily view. This lesson covers some basic design guidelines about how to create a PowerPoint which clearly conveys information and engages its audience
  3. Having the final business plan will facilitate in creating your presentation and pitch
  4. The pitch is the story of your app and is complemented by the deck. In this presentation, you want to sell your company to the judges. You want to show the judges you’ve thought about how you will persuade customers to purchase or download your app. You want to demonstrate why it’s worth investing with you. It helps a lot when your deck is clear. Your slides should be clean and relay to the investor that you have thought about your customers. Remember, make sure your presentation shows you have put time and effort into it.
  5. Use the a visual aid (like power point or prezior keynote) while you pitch to investors . This should be thoughtful and show investors that you have put in a great deal of time and energy thinking about the future of your company. Your presentation will have the pitch and the deck. It’s important to know your audience and present the material in a way that the judges will be able to understand; they haven’t been working with your app for 12 weeks. Keep the design simple – have only one idea per slide. Use images to support the "talk” and only put a few words on the slideBe organized through a clear beginning, middle, and end.   9. Start with a white presentation and black lettering.Do not get caught up in anything up in anything BUT the information for first version. Once your message is clear, make the visual appeal of your presentation complement your message.Themes, images, colors etc. will come after the information is set...this is so you don’t waste time perfecting something that is not relevant. Find images that SHOW your app and don’t just TELL the story.You will customize by adding graphics, etc., after you have the information firmed upYou can create your presentation on PPT or Prezi

  11. Gather evidence about the buzz regarding your app idea to help you get images that prove your app idea is something worth investing in. Investors and (Technovation judges!) are social creatures and tend tofollow the herd; so if they see that others love a product, they will bemore likely to trust it and invest in it, too. So for the girls, this meansthat if you can get people writing about your app, talking about your app on Facebook, etc. then that will help you make the case to an investor thatyou’re onto something really interesting.EXAMPLE: look at Nutella getting people to talk about something that seems as simple as eating bananas with their product but they have over 11,000 people who agree! Some suggestions are to make a FB page or twitter account for the issue your app is trying to solve or for your team and get people talking about what you are working on.
