3. MC A Wedding
~ The Wedding MC's Quick Resource Guide ~
Dear Wedding MC…
When you MC a wedding you carry a big responsibility on your shoulders. In fact, the
Wedding MC is a key player on the wedding team.
A well prepared Wedding MC can create a memorable wedding occasion that will be
remembered for years to come.
A poorly prepared Wedding MC, on the other hand, can ruin an otherwise perfect
wedding day for the bride and groom.
Even if you've never been a Wedding MC before and you don't know what to do or
what to say, you can be an amazing Wedding MC at the wedding reception with just a
few tricks in your Wedding MC "Toolbox."
After all, the bride and groom and their families have invested many hours of time and
large sums of money to make the wedding day a memorable occasion.
I created this Wedding MC's Quick Resource Guide to help Wedding MCs find
information and resources for their Wedding MC Duties, increase their confidence, and
carry out their responsibilities with professionalism.
Here are the key things you need to do after you've been chosen to MC a wedding:
(1) Create A Wedding Reception Agenda
The wedding agenda is an itemized list of all the events that will take place from the
moment the wedding reception starts to when it finishes.
The wedding agenda can be as detailed or as concise as you wish (although the more
detail you have the less chance you have of forgetting important things.)
4. If you make your wedding agenda detailed, list down what events are to take place,
what announcements to make, and what time frames are involved so you can keep the
events flowing smoothly during the wedding reception.
(2) Prepare A Wedding Reception Timeline
The MC’s Wedding Reception Timeline, is different from the Reception Agenda.
While the reception agenda is prepared in consultation with the bride and groom (or
wedding planner) and outlines all the events of the reception from start to finish, the
MC’s Timeline outlines all of the things the Master of Ceremonies has to do in
preparation for the reception.
As with the agenda, the more detail you have in your timeline, the more likely things
will prepared and ready on time.
The MC’s Timeline should be flexible so that any last minute changes - which invariably
happen - can be made.
I outline a detailed MC’s Timeline in How To Be A FUN Wedding MC to help the Master
of Ceremonies prepare for his duties and responsibilities. It's a step-by-step guide to
steer you through all stages of planning the reception.
(3) Know The Order Of Wedding Speeches
One of your main duties as Wedding MC will be to introduce friends and relatives who
5. will be giving a wedding speech or wedding toast.
Click The Following Link For Your Copy Of The Order of Wedding Speeches
Sit down with the wedding planners and create a list outlining the Order of Wedding
Speeches (as well as the Order of Wedding Toasts) and note this down on your wedding
agenda and timeline.
(4) Know Your Wedding MC Duties
My short list of Wedding MC Duties is a good start on what you will do to MC a
wedding.
It lists sixteen main Wedding MC Duties that you'll find at many wedding receptions.
And this list of Wedding MC Duties is easy to adjust according to the wishes of the
wedding planners.
Use the short list of Wedding MC Duties as a beginning point as you prepare your
wedding reception agenda.
(5) Prepare Your Wedding MC Speeches
As Wedding MC you might be requested to give a Wedding MC Speech to the bride and
groom.
Some newlyweds prefer to dispense with the formal wedding speeches and wedding
toasts. Instead, they elect the Wedding MC to make a formal speech and offer a toast
to the bride and groom.
One other occasion when you might have to give Wedding MC Speeches is when an
appointed wedding speaker is not available or was unable to attend the wedding
reception and you, as Wedding MC, have to stand in and make a wedding speech to the
bride and groom.
As well, you might have to give Wedding MC Speeches in a more informal way -
introducing yourself and the bridal party as well as any of the wedding reception events
6. that require a more formal introduction than the normal announcement.
These are not formal Wedding MC Speeches in the true sense of the word but they still
require thought and preparation before the wedding reception gets underway.
How To Be A FUN Wedding MC has Wedding MC Scripts including the MC’s Opening
Speech at the beginning of the reception.
(6) Have A Collection Of MC Jokes Ready To Use At The Wedding
Reception
Many Wedding MCs think that their main duty at the wedding reception is to be an
announcer.
While it is true that one of your functions as Wedding MC is to make announcements, if
you want to MC a wedding like a true professional, you should be prepared to entertain
the wedding guests at the reception.
The good news is that you don't have to be a stand-up comedian to entertain the
wedding guests.
All you need is a nice collection of clean, tasteful, and appropriate Wedding MC Jokes
