“By Faith… or Fear?”
Noah’s Story… Our Story
A Sermon Series based on Genesis 6-9
“By Faith… We are Redeemed”
Genesis 7-8
Before, during, and after the flood, God’s plan was NOT TO RE-
CREATE everything, He chose to REDEEM everything!
Genesis 7:7-9
Noah, his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives with him entered the ark to
escape the floodwaters. From the clean and unclean animals, from the
birds and everything crawling on the ground, two of each, male and
female, went into the ark with Noah, just as God commanded Noah.
Genesis 8:1, 15-20
God remembered Noah, all those alive, and all the animals with him in
the ark…
… God spoke to Noah, “Go out of the ark, you and your wife, your sons,
and your sons’ wives with you. Bring out with you all the animals of
every kind—bird, livestock, everything crawling on the ground—so that
they may populate the earth, be fertile, and multiply on the
earth.” Noah built an altar to the Lord. He took some of the clean
large animals and some of the clean birds, and placed entirely burned
offerings on the altar.
God’s plan for salvation included space for all things… the clean and
the unclean!!
2. The Ark was MESSY.
But it carried the HOPE of the world…(salvation from destruction)
Noah complied with God’s will and included everything God
commanded… pairs of all types of God’s creatures were included in
the Ark.
Even if it was messy, God wanted everything (clean and unclean) in
His plan of redemption.
Matthew 16:18
I tell you that you are Peter. And I’ll build my church on this rock. The
gates of the underworld won’t be able to stand against it.
Jesus told Peter, “You’re going to build a vessel (MY CHURCH)! It’s
my plan for salvation, and I want everybody on it!
Romans 3:22-24
God’s righteousness comes through the faithfulness of Jesus Christ for
all who have faith in him. There’s no distinction. All have sinned and
fall short of God’s glory, but all are treated as righteous freely by his
grace because of a ransom that was paid by Christ Jesus.
________________________________
For Personal or Group Reflection
1. Why did God include the “unclean” with the “clean” as part of His
command to Noah? (Genesis 7:8)
2. Reflect on what it would have been like to live on the Ark all those
months… with all those creatures. What kind of “mess” comes to your
mind?
3. Consider the words of Jesus in Matthew 16:18. What is the rock
that Jesus is speaking of? What does it mean “The gates of the
underworld won’t be able to stand against it?”
4. Discuss the similarities (or differences) between Noah’s Ark … and
Christ’s Church. How are they similar? Explain..
5. How is the local church an ark … part of Christ’s plan for
salvation? Is it messy? Should it be? (Read Romans 3:22-24)
6. Are you inviting “the messy” into your life? Into Christ’s church?

Outdoor Adventures
Dungeness Spit Kayaking-
Hiking-Camping Trip
Friday - Sunday, June 13-15
We camp at Dungeness Recreation area near Sequim, on Friday and
Saturday nights (we have camping equipment for newbies). On
Saturday, half our group kayaks to the lighthouse at the end of the spit
while the other half hikes out (about 5 miles). Then we switch off and
the other half kayaks back while the kayakers hike back - a full body
workout in a beautiful location.
On Sunday, we break camp and have an outdoor worship service.
Afterward, for those interested, they can go see the animals at the
Olympic Game Farm. Warning: This is no zoo. You get up close and
personal with buffaloes and other impressive animals (like grizzly
bears). Then it's back home on the ferry.
Cost: $20 per person for camping, $2 per family to go out on the Spit,
plus ferry fee, plus Olympic Game Farm Charges ($12 per adult, kids
under 5 are free).

You can skip the kayaking and hike both ways or just part way. It's a
