3. Deer
I am a herbivore
I am a selective feeder.
I primarily feed
on leaves, fresh
grasses,
soft twigs, fruit, fungi,
and lichens.
I live in wooded areas
throught Virginia.
I brush up against
trees to mark my
territory.
4. Bobcat
I am a Carnivore
I am a secretive hunter
and commonly found in
Virginia, but seldom seen.
I have excellent hearing
and vision
I hunt small mammals,
such as mice, squirrels
and rabbits.
I have the capability of
taking down a sick or
small deer.
Maymont's bobcats were
born in captivity and
would be unable to
survive in the wild.
5. Black Bear
I am a very large
omnivores
I live in Virginia but, with
loss of undisturbed
habitat, we are now
found only in some
mountain counties and
in the Dismal Swamp in
southeastern Virginia.
Maymont's bears are fed
meat, fruit, grasses, fish
and other food in a
secure holding area at
night and are allowed to
roam the habitat during
daylight hours.

The sun gives life
and energy to all
the plants and
animals.
The grass gives energy
to the Bears and deers.
The deer gives
energy to the Bobcat
when
He eats it.
Bears and Deers eat
grass
All animals give back to
the soil when they die or
through their waste.
Key
When the Bobcat
dies or is killed it
gives energy to
the soil so the
grass grows.
