Whenever I give this brief outside of Lakewood, I always start the presentation with the following question: “How many think crime in Lakewood is the worst in the County?” Generally 40% or more of the audience raise their hand; When I ask that those who think crime in Lakewood is the second worst in the County to also raise their hands…, most of the remaining hands go up. Clearly Lakewood is fighting a wide-spread perception of high crime rates.
