Brief introduction to EPALE, about the different tools and features of the platform and how it can be useful for you and your organisation.
EPALE is a new platform aimed at adult learning professionals across Europe. The site really is pan European. All areas of the site will be available in the 6 primary EU languages of EN, FR, DE, IT, ES, PL and the high value content will be translated into all 24 official languages. In total there 30 national teams, so called National Support Service, who manage the national pages of EPALE and encourage the adult learning sector to support the community.
EPALE is a community site, with a bottom up approach to ensure that the needs of the users are met. The site was launched with a survey of the users needs and I will come on to this shortly.
Due to the number of features the site will have, it is being developed in stages. By the end of next year, EPALE will have a calendar of events, a resource centre, a news room, a partner search facility, a jobs board and national pages for each participating country as well as 5 thematic pages addressing the important AL topics of: Learner support, Learning Environments, Life Skills, Quality and Policies, strategies and financing.
All of this is managed by the Central Support Service here at Ecorys in conjunction with our partner Intrasoft, who is responsible for the technical development and implementation of the platform.
The key goal to the site that it’s designed to become the main reference point of adult learning in Europe.

Some interesting facts that you may not already know about EPALE.
Wide range of organisations and stakeholders, it goes from very small providers who might find a particular use for the information (staff development) to policy makers and researchers who might use it to see what is happening in delivery ‘on the ground’.
EPALE particularly wants to include disadvantaged learner groups and learners from deprived areas, therefore it is very important for us to include organisations who work with these learner groups. For Wales in particular we face difficulties in reaching out to those learner groups and that’s why we rely on your support to help to connect with them.
Link to Erasmus+ funding: Under the various tools and features, you have the users directory and the partner search tool to directly engage with other users and organisations across Europe. This gives you the possibility to look for partner organisations for Erasmus+ applications!
The site is organised around five important adult learning themes. Resources are grouped under the following themes: learner support, learning environments, life skills, quality and policies, and strategies and financing.
Quality: Professional development of adult learning staff, curricula development, innovative pedagogies, accreditation, quality assurance
Policies, strategies and financing: Adult learning systems and policies (incl. governance, NQF / EQF), benefits of Adult Learning, legislation, Adult Learning research and evaluation, funding (strategies, available funding at European / national / regional / local level)
Learner Support: Learner target groups (low skilled, migrants, unemployed, seniors, prisoners, young adults, NEETs etc.)
Learning Environments: Adult learning providers, informal and non-formal learning settings, digital learning, blended learning, intergenerational learning, volunteering, community learning
Life Skills: Key competences (literacy, numeracy, ICT, languages, entrepreneurship), professional skills (C-VET), social and civic skills (citizenship, art and culture, etc.)
