2. • Project Objectives:
• The objectives of WAAPP in our institution is to assist/collaborate with the
National Centre of Specialization (NCOS) in Aquaculture in the following areas:
•
• Fingerlings research and adoption
• Survey to identify high quality brood stock of different culturable species of fish
• Development of brood stock tank for improved and fast growing fingerlings
production
• Breeding and nursing of fries to fingerlings
• Establishment of demonstration centers in our adopted villages, secondary and
their environs
• Seminar to present outcome of the research
• Release of new developed species
• Awareness creation and training of farmers on high quality species released
•
3. • Our institutions’ areas of specialization are catfish, tilapia etc.

• Fish Feeds research and adoption
• Fish feed survey in order to identify gaps in feed production and utilization
• Research into local feed development (floating and sinking), feed stuff quality and local fishmeal
• Promote the building of linkages between feedstuff producers for improved quality and reduced cost
• Organize meetings with factory managers to sensitize them on the importance of good quality fish feeds
• Conduct research into low cost machinery for feed pellet production
• Fabricate low cost machinery for feed pellet production
• Establishment of demonstration centers in our adopted villages, secondary schools and their environs
• Awareness creation and training on available low cost feed machinery

• Post Harvest (processing, packaging and marketing) research and adoption
• Conduct of survey on the status of post harvest technologies
• Development of low cost and efficient post-harvest technologies for fish processing and packaging
• Promote value addition
• Facilitate the development of storage facilities
• Facilitate the development of good packaging to attract more investors and consumers alike to the business of fish
marketing
• Facilitate increased marketing outlets for processed quality fish products and promote adherence to the required
standards for fish exports
• Development of effective communications and markets information flow among stakeholders
• Encourage cooperative efforts in the sale of fish by facilitating the establishment of market centers
• Build capacity in the area of value addition to meet international standards through the organization of workshops
and seminars.
