The document discusses creating a more vibrant, resilient, and sustainable Northeast Ohio region. It describes those terms as energetic and alive (vibrant), tough and strong (resilient), and maintainable and sustainable. It then outlines realities facing the region such as costly government fragmentation and stresses on cultural/natural resources. The document proposes engaging stakeholders through scenario planning to create a shared vision and framework for the region's future. It discusses using scenario planning tools to understand choices and their long-term consequences. The goal is to develop action products like a dashboard, toolkit, and policy recommendations to implement and sustain the vision.

Quality Connected Places Work Stream
QCP Products – Community Assets
-During the summer of 2012, the
NEOSCC compiled a comprehensive list
of assets in our region
-These assets include medical
facilities, cultural institutions, sporting
venues, festivals, breweries, public
parks, mixed-use districts, and hist.
districts
-A database of information was
gathered for each asset (claim to
fame, location in community, etc.)
-A hierarchy of assets was established
(regional asset vs. local asset)
23. Northeast Ohio Sustainable Communities Consortium
Quality Connected Places Work Stream
QCP Products – Asset Cluster Analysis
-Asset clusters in the region were
identified (communities that have 3 or
more assets)
-28 communities within our region
possess asset clusters
-Asset cluster maps were developed
for each of the 28 communities to
communicate adjacencies between
assets
-Draft findings of opportunities for
future development were identified
based on these adjacencies
24. How are arts & culture integral to creating quality
connected places?
• Helps to define and articulate the
soul of our communities
• Connects the present with our
shared past and future
• Draws people to central
places, creating a critical mass of
activity
• Helps drive community economic
development by creating jobs and
new business opportunities
• Celebrates diversity and advances
equity and encourages community
engagement in our communities

Our community is now our regionCommunity: a group of interacting people living in a common location. We have traded accessibility for mobility. We can now live in one part of the region and work in another. We are economically integrated and compete as a region.Creating abundance requires managing scarcityWe have great natural and built resources. We know from experience what happens if we don’t protect them.Land use is more important than ever before. We have to cultivate our assets and manage our costs.Regional problems need regional solutions.Problem-shifting ALWAYS boomerangs. We are more and more interconnected. Solutions must be comprehensive.
This first section introduces our method for scenario planning. It’s an abbreviated version of the slides we showed during our last visit.
