9. Darrel was born on April 29, 1960. It isn’t hard to find Darrel in these pictures. He was a gentle and funny guy to be around. One of his former classmates shared this memory with me: “ When we were in junior high, I'm not saying WHO, but somebody MIGHT have taken a magazine of the adult variety and hid it in their football locker, and after Darrel and this unnamed person looked at it and had a good laugh, Darrel threatened this person with telling the coaches, and this unnamed person was terrified of getting caught, but I ain't saying who it was.......... “ After high school Darrel suffered with many maladies that forced him to sleep in a recliner. It was during a time of sleep that Darrel grew sick to his stomach which caused him to lose his life. Darrel was the first of our graduating class members that we lost and he is truly missed. Darrel
12. Billy Allen Shipman was born on April 14, 1960. He is currently survived by his sisters, Robin and Treva. His parents have since passed away also. Allen participated in Band and Cosmetology during his school years. It was his love and talent for Cosmetology that allowed him to obtain a position with Regis Hairstyles until his death. Allen loved being given the opportunity to use his talent to help others and often participated in events that raised funds for various causes. After high school, Allen lived in Dallas and in Houston where he continued to improve his talent and was highly sought after. He had a very large clientele that to this day cannot seem to find anyone who can make their hair do the things that Allen could. I, myself, included. When I learned of Allen’s death on January 22, 1993; I was deeply saddened. I was told by his sisters that when they were going through his personal things after his death, they found a copy of my wedding announcement tucked away in his wallet. I was truly moved, for from the time I arrived at Iowa Park High School, he always made me feel welcome and was a true friend. To those of you who knew him; a truly fine individual was once in our midst and we are all better for it.

15. Mark was a very talented artist. Brad Wynn told me that there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do. Like many talented artist, Mark suffered from mental illness that often made him behave in manners that were not only dangerous to himself but to others. This lead to his death by the Iowa Park Police Department on .September 4, 1994. During a domestic violence call at Mark’s residence, an officer thought that Mark had a gun and was going to shoot him and therefore, he shot Mark. However, Mark did not have a gun on him. A true talent was gone but we all pray that he gained the peace that he could not attain here on Earth.
17. David was born August 20, 1961. He was a kind of quite guy until you got to know him or better yet; he got to know you. He lived in Iowa Park all of his life. He and his Father worked side by side doing all types of construction work and David owned his own roofing company. He married Michelle Hillard (David’s little sister) and together they had 3 daughters, Misty, Katie, and Gracie. David died in a car accident on April 2, 1997. He had told his family that he wanted Neil McCoy’s “Tell Me You’ll Love Me For A Million Years” played at his funeral. He also told his daughters that when he died, that during his funeral he would let them know that he was there. While the song was being played, lightening cracked outside. David continues to live on through his daughters and his 5 grandchildren. He is truly missed by all of his classmates as well as his family.

You just never know when that friend won’t be there anymore to share memories with.
