2. Hello, My name is Victoria and I’m going to be your

very interesting places regarding The Early Christian
and Byzantine Art. Although a lot of the pieces that we
are going to look at a lot of the artists’ of the them are
unknown. The pieces of art work that we will be looking
at today are called Pantokrater, Apse mosaic of Sta.
Pudenziana, Mosaic of Justinian and Retinue at Apse

3. Pantokrater
http://www.shroudofturin4journalists.com/pantocrator.htm
This is a piece of artwork that is called the Pantokrater. Which was
created in 544 AD. It is also located in St. Catherine's Monastery in
the Sinai. This piece of art work I believe is very beautiful and the
blending of the different vivid colors are the Unity of this painting
because the colors go together very well and is what I believe makes
this piece of art work the most beautiful.

4. Apse mosaic
of Sta.

sta_pudenziana_apse.jpg
This piece of art work is located in Santa Pudenziana, Rome and
was created in 390 although i don’t know who the artist is it is
located in a church. in this picture is a more realistic image of
god which is known as christ, he looks as if he is more
represented as a human rather then a symbol.

5. Mosaic of
Justinian and
Retinue at Apse
Entry

This piece is located in San Vitale, Ravenna and was created
in 546 CE. This mosaic is located in the Hagia Sophia. In this
piece of artwork as you can see has a lot of different colors
and shapes such as red, green, black, and other various colors
that look like they could have been painted, I believe the
shapes around the picture are very unique and is what brings
out the pictures beauty the most. There are shapes of
rectangles and circles that are also included.

6. Mother of God
This piece of art work is located in Greece and is located in many different
churches. This is a very popular piece of art work, as you can see it is Christ and
his mother who is known to many as Mary. I think this piece of art work is so
beautiful, the rough textured lines around the piece of art work is very unique
and the pictures dark blue and light pink/red colors brings out a lot of the piece
as a wholes balance. “The Theotokos is pensive; she envisions Christ’s
suffering and His way of the Cross. In this type of icon, the Virgin’s pain and
compassion for her Child become a universal anguish for all those who suffer in a
profane world. The icon’s majesty, however, is not stained by such emotion.
The expression is not one of meek suffering, but rather profound

7. ST. APOLINARE APSE
THESE ARE DIFFERENT MOSAICS THAT ARE
LOCATED IN A CHURCH THAT IS IN RAVENNA,
ITALY AND WAS CREATED IN 549. IN THESE
MOSAICS IT LOOKS LIKE EACH MOSAIC IS
TELLING A DIFFERENT STORY. I THINK THAT
THE SMOOTH TEXTURE OF THE PAINTING
MAKES IT LOOK SO PERFECTED AND IS THE
EMPHASIS OF THE PAINTING BECAUSE AS YOU
CAN SEE THERE IS A LOT OF COLOR
ESPECIALLY THE GREEN AND IT BRINGS OUT
THE A LOT OF THE PAINTINGS PRESENTATION.

8. Hagia
Sophia
Even though this is not specifically one piece of art work I believe the
whole Hagia Sophia itself is one big piece of art work. This is located in
Turkey and the Hagia Sophia was created in 1520. It was created by the
in about 5 years by Emperor Justinian. In the picture that is shown as
you can see is a part of the Hagia Sophia, It is very beautiful and I
believe the form of the Hagia Sophia’s structure for examples the arch
looking things that are on the sides of the building are what shows a lot
of it’s attention. This building is very unique and it is amazing how it http://www.hagia-sophia.net/
was built. I love everything about the Hagia Sophia.
