High performance/Parallel computing research projects (year 2010 – Present)
• CPU thread pool design which concatenates multiple video surveillance
image streams into a single entity to minimize context switching.
• A single video surveillance stream is assigned to a CUDA block to reduce
overheads of kernel level synchronization and inter-block data
communication. Pipeline model is also applied to minimize memory latency.
• Results: 9× speedup against a benchmarked architecture.
Parallel acceleration of a multi-camera
automated video surveillance system
using CUDA
• Parallel design using CPU threads to accelerate the matrix and vector
computation for a given large number of input states.
• A thread based parallel design is also implemented to periodically compute
an ideal transition window size under varying speech characteristics, as part
of an applied predictive analytics model.
• Results: Sustains real-time dominant speaker detection at 30fps.

• Parallel design of horizontal and vertical motion image downsampling using
CUDA for H.264 spatially scalable video coding (SVC).
• Each horizontal row or vertical column of a motion image is distributed
between CUDA blocks and threads with optimal usage of shared memory.
• Results: 45× speedup against a benchmarked serial, 5× against multicore.

• A balanced workload management algorithm stitches client videos into an
UHD combined frame, based on the number of available logical processors.
• Results: 27% frame rate performance gain.

• Segments string list into blocks of words and threads in generating the bit
table for string searching process.
• Results: 5× speedup against a benchmarked serial, 2× against multicore.

Technical Skills October 2004 – October 2005 Putrajaya, Malaysia Research Assistant University Tenaga Nasional Accomplishments Designed and developed a working prototype of a real-time joint video compression, encryption and transmission application, which was successfully tested over an outdoor 5.8 GHz wireless environment. Pipeline model is also applied to minimize memory latency. • Results: 9× speedup against a benchmarked architecture. Parallel acceleration of a multi-camera automated video surveillance system using CUDA • Parallel design using CPU threads to accelerate the matrix and vector computation for a given large number of input states. • A thread based parallel design is also implemented to periodically compute an ideal transition window size under varying speech characteristics, as part of an applied predictive analytics model. • Results: Sustains real-time dominant speaker detection at 30fps. Dominant Speaker Detection in Multipoint Video Communication Using Markov Chain • Parallel design of horizontal and vertical motion image downsampling using CUDA for H.264 spatially scalable video coding (SVC). • Each horizontal row or vertical column of a motion image is distributed between CUDA blocks and threads with optimal usage of shared memory. • Results: 45× speedup against a benchmarked serial, 5× against multicore. Real-time High Resolution Down- sampling Algorithm on Many-core Processor for Spatially SVC • A balanced workload management algorithm stitches client videos into an UHD combined frame, based on the number of available logical processors. • Results: 27% frame rate performance gain. Parallel video combiner architecture for multipoint video communication • Parallel Bloom filter algorithm using CUDA. • Segments string list into blocks of words and threads in generating the bit table for string searching process. • Results: 5× speedup against a benchmarked serial, 2× against multicore. A Parallel Bloom Filter String Searching Algorithm on a Many-core Processor • Endpoint video combiner architecture in a multipoint control unit, • Incorporates a comprehensive level of asynchronous and task based parallelism using threads for network streaming, media distribution, video encoding and decoding, and video stitching processes. • Results: 762% frame rate performance gain.
