Let’s talk about career planning first before exploring and knowing about the various career options available post XIIth. Most of us approach career decision making with fear and trepidation. We end up either following our friends or do what parents tell us. But planning your career can be one of the most enriching , interesting and exciting time of your life. Career planning process enables you to learn more about you and about who you are becoming. So, be more involved and informed about the most crucial decision in your life. Take an informed decision instead of following “what my friend does, I will also do the same” herd mentality. Assess Yourself: where you are, what are your interests, what are your work values, what are your strengths and weaknesses etc. Gain self awareness, self confidence, understand time and stress mgt., etc. Explore career options: What careers do you find interesting, how much time would you need to attain a level of education, in that field, to get a good job, e.g. to become a doctor you would need around 8-10 years while in engineering and an MBA would take only 6 years before you get a good job Set career goals: setting targets with a timeframe that you want to achieve in your life. Set long term as well as short term career/life goals. Break them into smaller well defined steps to achieve the final goals, and so on a so forth…Identify job market trends and familiarise yourself with sources of information to use further clarifying your career choices.
A critical decision : decides the future, lays the foundation for the rest of your life Changing market scenario : Dynamic and multi tasking is the name of the game today. One must be a business manager who can manage any business with his or her understanding of the market dynamics. Need to see 10 years hence, NOW, to guess and estimate what would be the industry scenario and how you would be place with your education and skill set, that you would acquire now. Increasing competition : More number of aspirants for less number of seats. The earlier you get informed and identify a line/stream, the better for you to prepare for it. More and new sectors coming up : Not only more opportunities are there in existing businesses but also newer businesses are coming up with better and faster future growth.
As mentioned in the previous slide after exploring the various career options one must zero down on the most suitable career option. It depends on your personality, habits, inclination, interest, availability of good educational institutes and future opportunities in that field. Suppose you zero down on Management career then the next step is to find out the right, most suitable course that would help you meet your career goals. Subsequently rank various colleges on different parameters like quality of education, reputation, past record, placements etc. Familiarise with the college admission process for the relevant/selected stream – like the pattern of entrance test, knowing calendar of events, tracking waiting list at the time of result announcement by the institute/college Most of the colleges have their own entrance examinations or are affiliated to certain all India entrance examinations. You need to check for the entrance exam details, patterns, and critical dates like notification release date, application form submission date etc. With so much of preparation you can be successful in pursuing the career of your choice, surely. Do homework sincerely and then success will knock at your doorstep.
Briefly touch upon various career options available to students. We must deliberately avoid recomending private universities/colleges because of many reasons. The topmost amongst them is the non-recognised degree by AICTE or UGC etc.
