3. 1907 a prototype model with a 45-degree V-Twin engine was displayed at the Chicago Automobile Show. BEGINNING 1907 model.
4. In 1911, HD makes 150 motorcycles in the United State 1912, HD Construct a new 6-story factory. HD also became an exporter this year.
5. World War I In 1917 World War- I began and first time the motorcycle adopted for combat service . HD provided about 15,000 machines to US ARMY.
6. 1920s By 1920, HD was the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world. 1921 HD ridden by Otto Walker win a race at an average speed of over 100 mph.
7. V-Twin, introduced in 1922, and the "Teardrop" gas tank in 1925. A front brake was added in 1928.
8. The Great Depression The Great Depression began a few months after the introduction of their 45 cubic inch model. Harley-Davidson's sales plummeted from 21,000 in 1929 to 3,703 in 1933
9. World War II HD again produced 90,000 military motorcycles for US Army in World war II. HD received 2 Army-Navy Awards in 1943 and 1945 for Excellence in Production.

11. Tarnished reputation In 1952 US impose 40% tax on imported motorcycles. Hollywood also damaged Harley's image with many outlaw biker gang films produced from the 1950 through the 1970.
12. Restructuring and revival In 1980 HD claimed Japanese were importing motorcycles into US in such volume to harm/threaten the domestic producers. HD bought luxury Motorhome and Holiday Rambler in 1986
13. CARS In 2000 Ford Motor added HD edition to Ford F-Series F-150 line, complete with the HD logo. F-150 production continues for 2011 .
14. Buell Motorcycle Company 1987 HD associated with sportbike manufacturer buellmotercycle company. HD acquired 98% of the Company share in 1998. Buell developed a low-cost, low-maintenance motorcycle.
15. Factory Tours and museum HD offers factory tours at 4 of its manufacturing sites. HD Museum opened in 2008,exhibits HD's history , culture, and vehicles. Due to the consolidation of operations, the Capitol Drive Tour Center in Wauwatosa , Wisconsin was closed in 2009.
