Abstract
In researching what a presentation is, and watching 2 different kinds of presentation videos, I
have found that they both follow the basic concept of the Rhetorical Triangle. Each video
consist of a speaker, audience, and situation, but they both address their audience in different
ways. The 1st video, which is not done in front of a live audience, still addresses their
information to parents around the world. The 2nd video is in front of a live audience but can still
be seen by those not able to attend. And both videos talk about changes that need to be made.

Compare and Contrast Presentation Videos
Before starting this paper I first had to remind myself of what a presentation is as well as
what it entails. A presentation is the act of presenting an idea or explaining a concept to a group
of people. It could be a CEO of a company showing its board members where the company is
coming from to where it is going in the future using tools such as whiteboards, videos, graphs,
etc. It could be a doctor wanting to show his colleges his theory on a disease he is researching, a
teacher wanting to show the steps in learning how to play the piano, or even a cook wanting to
show how to make a dish. There are many different types of presentations done by many
different kinds of people, and in many different ways. But the one concept that always stays the
same is in the use of the Rhetorical Triangle which consists of a speaker, an audience, and a
situation. (Chapter 10: The Rhetorical Triangle, 2011)
Due to the fact that there are so many different kinds of presentations, I decided to do my
research on 2 different kinds. The 1st video is on a subject matter that hits close to home,
Childhood Obesity in America. The speaker gives a short statement about obesity to parents of
young children and although this is not done in front of a live audience, it is considered a
presentation video because it follows the concept of the rhetorical triangle of speaker, audience,
and situation.
Speaker: Alexis Cala Audience: Parents of children
Situation: Obesity

In this video the speaker after giving her opening statement proceeds to provide
information on ways to reduce the problem, different alternative options, as well as live
comments from medical professionals. She also showed using her video what some small
children do on daily basics. I found each element in her presentation to be valid and successful
because as a parent and dealing with my own kids fight with this, I could relate and understand
the points she was saying. (Cala, 2011)
The 2nd video also followed the concepts of the Rhetorical Triangle of speaker, audience,
and situation.
Speaker: Tom Brown Audience: Design Engineers
Situation: Change in the design industry
In his video, Tom Brown is talking in front of a live audience on stage. He talks about
designs he made as well as others from the past. He provides all kinds of video aids for the
audience, and talks about why there is a need for change in the field of design engineering. I felt
he was very effective in getting his message out to the proper people. (Mushaweh, 2010)
In comparing and contrasting the two video presentations, although both seemed to be well
made due to the fact their messages did come across plain and clear, I found Tom Browns to be
more effective. Not only is he standing in front of his audience, he speaks to them on a level
understanding of the problems going on. In the end he even provides a twitter location where the
people in the audience can give ideas on what needs to be tackled to make life better in poor
countries.
