10. Step 1:
Think of a child that you love and
care for who is approximately 8
years of age. This could be a child,
grandchild, sister, brother, cousin
etc.
Step 2:
Think of an adult, approximately
80 years of age who you love and
care for. This could be a parent,
grandparent, friend etc.
Step 3:
Ask yourself: Would you send that
8 year old along with the 80 year
old on a walk, or a bike ride on that
infrastructure? If you would, then
it is safe enough, if you would not,
then it is not safe enough.

– To reduce the number of accidents by 20%
• Strategy
– To provide a safe, bicycle friendly, high quality
urban space and promote and market cycling as a
means of transportation
19. Results
• An increase of cycling by 20%
• A 20% decrease in the number of cyclist
accidents
• 35 mill new bicycle journeys made during the
project = 25.000 new journeys every day
• 50% of the new journeys were made by car
drivers
• The City of Odense saved 4,5 mill € on health
28. Barriers i Oslo/Norway
• Cycling not considered a mode of transportation with special
needs for infrastructure
– Cycling allowed on pavements, in walking streets – not
good for anybody!
– The bicycle infrastructure not coherent, lots of missing
links, not consistent
– Mix of one way and two ways cycle paths confusing
– Maintanance not good enough
– Bicycle parking not sufficient
