8. How to manage the services heterogeneity in the home?
Heterogeneity of services implies heterogeneity of signals
– IP related Applications can be aggregated together and managed
– BUT those cannot:
– TV Spectrum (Analog or Digital, Terrestrial or Satellite)
– Radio signals for future wireless distributed local connectivity
Is it mandatory to use several parallel infrastructures? …
How do we manage ATAWAD services?
Unification of the Home Network infrastructure is a must !
Diversification of the end-connections is unavoidable

9. Towards a unique multiservice home network
A two layer architecture
An optical backbone interconnects a central un multiformat switch ( MS ) who
distributes the services to local terminals which act as "remote extenders" ( Ext )
extenders"
The different services aggregated at the MS are all made available on their native interface at
each extender
The optical backbone is installed in the structured cabling of the house by a
the
end-
trained professional and is not directly accessible to the end-user hence
guarantying its long life span.

10. Towards a unique multiservice home network
Electrical multiplex optically distributed
Exploits the large bandwidth of optical fiber such as Silica fiber
Applications are electrically multiplexed and distributed over fiber

11. Conclusions
Network speed will increase and delay will reduce
– in the region of 1 Gbps within five years
– Below 10 ms within five years
Need to provide a unified infrastructure for the home network
– Many services in parallel which shall be made available
anywhere
– All IP aggregation may not be the best solution
Optical fiber as a backbone
– Semi transparent distribution of the aggregated services
– Long life span

13. Rationale: Growth of Home Networks
Today's Situation
Bandwidth Requirements
Downlink Uplink
(HD)TVoIP
On-line Games
100 Mbps is amply sufficient
Today, WiFi (11a/b/g) + CAT cables or WiFi (11n) are suitable
But what is going to be needed in 2015?

definition at 60 GHz
"Strategy Analytics believes that wire replacement alone is a sufficient demand factor to create momentum
behind both these wireless standards (WDHI and WIrelessHD) over the near to medium term." (9 Oct 2008)
