Fairy Tales by Jakob and Wilhelm Grimm
Introduction:
Fairy tales were a big part of my childhood. I started my research on fairy tales written by Jakob and
Wilhelm Grimm. Fairy tales often have a character that goes on a journey or an adventure. During
his journey he encounters mystical beings that help or hurt the characters success. When I was a
child, my grandparents would tell my sister and I stories like "Jack and the Bean Stalk" and "Little
Red Riding Hood". My grandfather would always act out the part of the wolf or the giant, while my
grandma told the story. The fairy tales by the brothers Grimm were very popular and some were
retold by Disney. But Disney's versions were much less graphic than the original tales. I believe that
fairy tales are a big part of child's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They wrote tales like "Little Red–Cap", where a little girl is tricked by a wolf into getting herself
and her grandmother eaten. Luckily a hunter saves them by cutting open the wolf's stomach. Jakob,
the smarter of the two, went on in later years "to define the relationship between similar word of
different languages, this became known as Grimm's law" (O'Neill, par.8). Both brothers were
professors at the University of Gottingen. Both were dismissed for political reasons. They then
moved to Berlin, where they again became professors and were professors until they died (O'Neill,
par.9). Many of stories they published were very unique which is probably why they became so
popular. One unique characteristic that relates to all of all the stories I read by the brothers Grimm
was that a problem arises with magic and is resolved with violence. In "Little Red Cap", the wolf
can talk and it eats the grandmother and girl whole. The problem that arises in "The Seven Ravens"
is the daughter of a king and queen discovers that her parents had her seven brothers turned in to
ravens. The violent solution to "Little Red–Caps" problem is they are saved by a hunter that cuts
open the wolf's stomach. In the "The Seven Ravens" the daughter goes on a journey to find the key
of her brothers' glass mountain prison. She loses the key but instead she cuts off a finger and uses
that. Even though the characters and plot twists in each story are violent and graphic, the

The Animal Helper And The Human Hero
This literary analysis will define the role of the animal helper and the theme of protection for the
human hero in the fairy tale tradition. In the classical fairy tale, the "donor" or animal helper is a
crucial element to the survival and success of the mina hero, since they are typically animals that
provide assistance in the journey or quest. This form of intervention is an important aspect of the
animal helper's role in guiding the hero towards self–realization. The animal helper also supports the
notion of a heroic human protagonist, which helps to promote the individuals' progress through acts
of good deeds and support throughout the tale. These are interlocking parts of the relationship
between the animal helper and the human hero, which provide a cooperative foundation for
achieving a certain goal in the fairy tales of the Brother's Grimm and other European fairy tale
traditions. In essence, a literary analysis of the role of the animal helper and the them of protection
will be defined in this examination of the fairy tale tradition. The animal helper provides a
longstanding tradition in the classical European fairy tale. In many fairy tales, a talking animal
interacts with a human hero to help them overcome the "destroyer" that is attempting to thwart their
dreams of success or achievement in the world. For example, Grimm's fairy Hansel and Gretel
utilizes a white duck that brings them across the water, since there is no bridge: "The duckling came
up to them, and

Aircraft Of The Field Of Aviation
A pilot is someone who is certified to operate aircraft in order to transport goods and/or passengers
from one location to the next, for leisure, business and commercial purposes. Pilots can be employed
by the government, corporations, commercial airlines, and can sometimes be self–employed.
Aircraft are usually operated by two pilots, who will take turns in controlling the aircraft to avoid
fatigue. Pilots are very essential to the function of the field in aviation. The History The field of
aviation was jumpstarted on December 17, 1903 when Orville and Wilbur Wright flew a heavier

and have a minimum of 40 hours of flight time to become a private pilot. With the appropriate
training, ratings, and endorsements a private pilot will be able to carry passengers in any aircraft of
choice at anytime and in any weather. One drawback of being a private pilot is that they cannot fly
for any type of compensation. Although, they can share the operating expenses of the flight with
their passengers. Commercial pilots mainly fly for commercial airlines and are paid for flying the
aircraft. "To become a commercial pilot one must be 18 years of age and have a minimum of 250
hours of flight time, including 100 hours in powered aircraft, 50 hours in airplanes, and 100 hours as
pilot in command." (http://www.aopa.org/letsgoflying/stories/080827pilots.html#private)

inspections prior to their departure. While the aircraft is in motion, pilots are responsible for the
wellbeing of all crew and passengers on board. Constant contact with the Federal Aviation

This may caused the unwillingness and disobedience of some employees in Lehman because their
opinion did not get the attention from the management, whereas only those who did their job just to

employees with lots of money for taking risks, to encourage risk taking to earn better profit. Because
of the rewards, Employees has drive to work harder to get better money but has forgotten to put their

A Report On Aircraft Fuel Efficiency
Report on research Project. Abstract: Aircraft fuel efficiency has improved significantly since the
beginning of the jet era in the 1960s, and from 1970 to 2000 total energy intensity was reduced by
more than 60%. Fuel burn is a key determinant of aviation economics given that fuel costs account
for up to 35% of total aviation costs. The aviation industry has therefore focused on fuel efficiency
improvement through engine and aircraft innovation which has resulted in a reduction in total
energy intensity of more than 60% since 1970. There are a number of evolutionary technologies that
could help achieve further fuel efficiency improvements in new aircraft over the next 20 years.
Aviation engineers have been working on silent aircraft and using 3D systems in aircraft to make
precise aircraft design which will be very useful for cargo purposes and for travellers to reach their
destinations. Students of Cambridge university are also been working on silent aircraft which will
reduce the aircraft noise and improve the fuel efficiency. I set out to analysis that main sections.

Aeronautical Pioneers: The Story of Orville and Wilbur Wright
Imagine life without airplanes. Imagine a life without the security they gives us from conflicts and
wars, without the ability to send packages and mail swiftly across long distances, or without the
ability to travel anywhere in the world in a relatively short amount of time. Luckily we don't have to
worry about any of these things most of the time, all thanks to the "pioneers of modern aviation,"
Orville and Wilbur Wright ("Orville Wright" 2). Through their successful invention and flight of the
first powered aircraft, we can live better lives than what was before ever possible. Therefore, I feel it
is only common sense for them to be inducted into the History Hall of Fame. To further uphold the

Later in life before famously developing the powered aircraft, they both went on to collaborate in
owning two different newspapers, both of which failed ("The Wright Family"), and even later in
1892, they again, while both having an extraordinary passion for fixing and selling bicycles,
collaborated in opening up their own shop concerning that passion ("Wilbur Wright" 1). Later, after
developing the first powered aircraft in 1903, of which I will elaborate more on in a later paragraph,
and demonstrating it with success in 1909, they grew a business off of their triumph, became very
wealthy, even beginning to build a family estate in Dayton, Ohio with their wealth ("Orville Wright"
2), and even through first first developing stages, the brothers shared credit for everything ("Wilbur
Wright" 1). Even though they were brothers and business partners in the aeronautical engineering
industry, May 25, 1910 became the day where the Wright brothers flew with each other, for six
minutes, for the first and only time ever in their lives ("Orville Wright" 2). That same day also
became the day where the 82–year–old father of these pioneers in history ever flew with one of his
sons, happening to be Orville ("Orville Wright" 2). Almost exactly two years later in Dayton, Ohio,

Cinderella, By Charles Perrault
In Charles Perrault's "Cinderella," there are many different ways he conveys goodness being a
magical thing in people's hearts. When reading it, it is easy to point out how he thinks kindness is
the most important thing it one's life. In Maria Tatar's "An Introduction to Fairy Tales," she talks
about fairy tales being an escape to children. She states that there is a world of imagination in fairy
tales that takes reality and makes it exciting and adventurous. She also mentions that fairy tales help
influence the way people look at certain things and the paths they choose. "Cinderella," by Charles
Perrault, is a story that inspires all kinds of people to focus on inner beauty in order to get their

fairy tale. The name "Cinderella" is a name known throughout the world; it is known by a variation
of people ranging from kids to adults. We associate this name with the average fairy tale. When
looking at this particular story of Cinderella, it is clear that it is the story of the house maiden who
ends up living happily ever after. The main point of "Cinderella" is that when someone is a good
person and they live a life of kindness, good things happen to them. For example, throughout the
story Perrault hints to the idea of Cinderella being beautiful and having a good heart, "Cinderella, in
spite of her mean apparel, was a hundred times more handsome than her sisters, though

Course Learning Outcomes For English 110
As I reflect on my work at the end of this semester, I am able to see how much I have improved as a
writer. I have learned my weaknesses through peer reviews, and the feedbacks that I received from
you. This cover letter will address four of the course learning outcomes for English 110 such as,
how to write effectively using a number of rhetorical strategies and patterns, demonstrate the ability
to synthesize materials drawn from multiple sources using critical reflection and independent
judgment, write a research paper of 2,500 words, and carry out essential steps in the writing process.
I enclosed three works that I have submitted for this course which are, "The Journey of a Small
Town Girl," "The Wright Brothers," and my research paper titled "The Dirty Dozen."
My purpose in writing the literacy narrative was to let different audiences to have a taste of what the
struggle of an immigrant is like. This was the first paper that I had to write for this class and it was
the easiest out of all. I got to express my struggles in a very unique way. During my peer review
session for this paper, I was able to see my mistakes such as verb tense agreement, word choice and
awkward phrasing. I learned to not use abbreviations throughout this piece because a mixed
audience may not be familiar with them.
I think the best part of my narrative is my introduction and conclusion. My introduction sets a

The Tale Of Little Red Cap
Fairy tales present a sense of life and fantasy with the use of literary techniques, like animism and
imagery, creates a strong appeal for children (Favat, 1977). Throughout time fairy tales have
embodied the current state of social construction, perspectives and ideologies of society. These
views are embedded in the child's mind from an early age influencing their discernment of
relationship, mores, ingenuity and persona. One of the most iconic children story retold and adapted
in all major languages for three centuries is the classic tale of Little Red Riding Hood. The story
originated through oral traditions during the 17th century in France and has numerous versions over
the years representing the evolving social mores. The Grimm Brother's version of the tale, Little Red
Cap, was rewritten in 1812 in Germany illustrating core communal principles of their time. The
adaptations of their work underlines complex societal and political setting during the 19th century.
Through attitudes of the characters, imagery, and symbolism, Little Red Cap illustrates Victorian
ideas on obedience, patriarchal beliefs, female sexuality influencing children's understanding of
gender role and behavioural traits. These ideas are then passed over through generation influencing
modern views on the specific subjects including gender roles.
In Grimms' wide collection of cautionary tales, there is a common inference of how both female and
male should act through fictional character's personas and

The Lais Of Marie De France
The extent to which the Lais of Marie de France can be categorized as fairy tales is dependent on the
definition of "fairy tale." Using various scholars' definitions of "fairy tale" and conceptions of the
fairy tale genre, criteria for "fairy tales" arises. Then, close–readings of three lais, "Guigemar",
"Lanval" and "Yonec", are used as a mechanism for meeting or failing the criteria. This
methodology is then evaluated and problematized. The criterion for fairy tales includes origin, form,
content, style, and meaning. Etymologically, the word 'fairy tale' has disputed origins. Supposedly, it
comes from the French "contes des fees" or "tales about fairies", popular in French courts and salons
in the seventeenth century. However, Jack Zipes argues that "conte féerique" actually translates to
"fairy tales" and refers to narrative form, rather than content.
If defined from "conte féerique", a work is a fairy tale due to its narrative form. Narrative form is in
turn defined in two ways, as the process of narration or as the narrative account itself, known as the
story. Firstly, the fairy tale process of narration has a consensus definition, determined by its origin
and function. Secondly, the narrative account of a fairy tale encompasses several sub–sections
including setting, characters, and style. Fairy tales originate in the oral tradition of folk tales. Both
Vladimir Propp and Karel Čapek argue that key to this tradition is the repeated interaction between

The Fairy Tales By The Grimm Brothers
Society has and always will continue to have a great influence on many things such as, music, to
movies, and even fairy tales that we thought we knew so well. More specifically, society has
influenced the Grimm fairy tales. The original Grimms ' tales that were collected would now be
considered dark, gruesome, explicit and something that children should not, for any reason read.
Because of this, over time society wanted a change in what their children were hearing, reading and
now seeing. The tales have been changed and sugar coated to become as what we know them as
today. Disney is highly responsible, in part, for the innocent versions that today 's early generations
have been exposed. It begins with the Grimm brothers' long journey across Germany to study
language or also known as linguistics; and from here, society 's influence at the time started with the
creation of the tales. The Grimm brothers were well–known and fascinating story–tellers. Most of us
who have seen the classic Disney movies such as Cinderella and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
have viewed an innocent and warmhearted version of the gruesome and dark tales that are known
from the Grimm fairy–tales. In the beginning of their journey, the brothers had no intention of
becoming world famous story–tellers. An article called the "Grimms ' Fairy Tales" states that the
brothers found that the best way to allow someone to share the sounds of their dialect was to share
the stories that had been passed down to

Different Versions Of Sleeping Beauty Stretch From The...
Various versions of Sleeping Beauty stretch from the middle of the Renaissance period to
contemporary settings. The Ninth Captain's Tale by Arabian Nights is the earliest, recorded even
before its 1550 publishing (cite). In Italy, Giambattista Basile writes Sun, Moon and Talia, which is
the first record of the Sleeping Beauty tale in Europe. Charles Perrault's Sleeping Beauty in the
Wood revises the tale, making it more children friendly and most similar to the Brother's Grimm
version familiar with many children. Common throughout these stories, the princess character's
helpless nature is romanticized, not to mention the popular story of a prince finding a sleeping
princess and the two living happily ever. Despite this fairy tale's popularity, the several versions of
Sleeping Beauty endorse a submissive and powerless female by establishing a surreal, magical
setting around the sleeping princess character, dampening the alarming actions of the prince and
systemic lack of female agency. Magical elements present themselves throughout each of these fairy
tales. The princess character in each version is magically put to sleep or death. Perrault's version has
a fairy with a chariot of fire, pull by dragons. However, when the prince character is introduced, the
description of the surreal setting around the princess is emphasized, primarily the princess
character's place of rest. In The Ninth Captain's Tale, the mausoleum for Sittukhan is described as
spectacular with "columns

The Wachowski Brothers' The Matrix
The Matrix is a film directed by the Wachowski Brothers depicting a future in which machines rule.
The machines have created a complex computer program called "the matrix" which simulates a form
of reality. The machines have enslaved humans by hooking them up to the matrix so that they can
harvest them as an energy source. A number of people have been able to escape the matrix and they
continue to fight the war against the machines in hopes of being able to free everyone still trapped
within the matrix. Throughout the film the main characters Neo, Morpheus, and Trinity enter back
into the matrix several times for various reasons. Because the film bounces back and forth between
reality and the matrix, the film induces a strong theme of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The matrix sets were designed to have a worn and torn look that was imposing and grid–like. The
scenes depicting the characters in the real world mostly took place on the ship, Nebuchadnezzar.
These sets were designed to have a "patched–up" look where the wires and components of the ship
were clearly visible, communicating the idea to the audience that the ship is a "marriage between
man and machine." In addition to how the sets looked, how the scenes were shot within those sets
added to theme as well. When the characters were within the matrix, the scenes were shot using a
green tint, mimicking the feel of early monochrome computer monitors. When the characters were
in the real world, they used a blue tint and longer shot lenses which soften the background while
putting more emphasis on the characters.
As I also mentioned earlier, the actual appearance of the characters in the film is another component
in the theme of appearance verses reality. When the main characters are in the real world, they are
shown with having a connection port on the back of their necks. This connection port is the means
by which the characters can reconnect to the matrix. The characters were also depicted in the real
world as wearing clothes with a more textile feel, and hair that is less stylized. When compared to
how these characters are depicted when they are inside the

Significance of Matriarchal Societies in Tales
A woman's honor and reputation differs from culture to culture. In many cultures, women are
expected to only bear children and become housewives. Some women are only allowed to work in
certain fields that might only be permissible for what "women" would be capable enough to handle.
Women until this day earn just 78 cents for every dollar a man earns. What must this go to prevail?
One can only say that even today in our own modern society, we see clashes between the province
of different sexes and tension between gender equality. Our social systems are divided into two
norms, Matriarchal and Patriarchal. A matriarch is defined as a woman who is the central figure for
her family, group, and or political administration. The term for males is the patriarch, a male who
dominates his family, group, and his descendants. Both societies are reciprocal to one another;
however, due to cultural belief the matriarchal society still falls under the shell that women are
"soft" and "need support" from no one other than a male authoritative figure. In this paper, I will
claim how many tales exemplify women to be these inferior characters who are abided into such
gender bias stereotypes. Issues such as oppression, sexism, misogyny, and rape are all aspects that
objectify the female society, which allows for misconceptions

Controversy Between the Existence of God Essay example
In "The Brothers Karamazov" by Fyodor Dostoevsky made a famous claim that establishes the link
between the existence of God and morality. Apart from the controversy related to the scope of the
quotation, the discussion on the proper translation and interpretation of the words of Ivan
Karamazov. For instance, in his article "Dostoevsky did not say it" D.Cortesi claims that Dostoevsky
did not make such claim (Cortesi 1). However, the research by Russian–speaking authors shows that
the original text of "The Brothers Karamazov" contains the statement under study (Volkov 1).
Coming to the scope of the claim, one should concentrate on the reasons for making such claim, as

Many religions have well–developed value frameworks that help adherents distinguish between
moral and immoral actions, serving as their guides in all the situations that require choosing the
model of behavior. The frameworks that regulate personal behavior, suing the categories of morality
and immorality, manifest themselves in the form of holy books, written and oral traditions and the
statements of religious leaders. The second reason lies in the fact that the scope of basic principles
of religious and secular morality is the same. For instance, the norms of moral behavior that are
contained in the Ten Commandments (e.g., the prohibition of murder, adultery and theft) are shared
both by deists and Atheists. Thirdly, religious people tend to think that God had created everything
in the world. Therefore, it is quite natural for them to think that God had created morality. Thus they
see morality and religion as either two inseparable notions or even the one that finds its roots in the
idea of God. The historically formed link between the morality and religion, the universal nature of
moral values and the doctrine of God's will as a source of everything that exists in the world can be
viewed as prerequisite for the formation of the point under study.
While one can believe that God creates morality, and the non–existence of God means that morality
does not exist, lots of questions

The Novel, 1984, By George Orwell
George Orwell, known for his dystopian novels, wrote his most famous book, 1984, in the 1940s.
Almost 60 years later in 1999 the Wachowski brothers wrote and directed one of the greatest film
trilogies of all time, The Matrix. Both the novel and the movies depicted post apocalyptic dystopian
worlds under some form of an oppressive government. Oppression, control, and sexuality are some
of the prominent themes throughout the storylines. While some may argue that the novel 1984 did
not inspire the Wachowski brothers, many clear similarities, but also differences, lie within the script
of the trilogy.
1984 is thought to be one of the greatest dystopian works in the 20th century. Orwell wrote the
novel with allusions to both Nazi Germany and communist Russia. He told his vision of the future
of the planet. The main character Winston Smith is a government worker in a dystopian society. The
government controls almost all aspects of life; from their jobs to entertainment, leisure, and most
importantly every citizen is constantly monitored. People do not rebel because the government
controls the past. They change history in their favor to maintain complete and utter power and
control. Because no memory of anything prior exists, the citizens have no knowledge of their
oppression. They continue to live life under complete control and are brainwashed from birth to turn
in traitors.
The Matrix trilogy, a popular film series, contains several similar themes in a somewhat

What We Learn From Kendrick Lemar's To Pimp A Butterfly
Life is a jungle, a beautiful, colorful landscape, often painted with harsh conflict and oppression.
Navigating forward requires keeping healthy relationships with the community and those close to
you, maintaining focus on your true identity, and not losing sight of larger than life goals. These
ideals are the message that Kendrick Lamar wishes to bestow upon whomever experiences his latest
album, To Pimp A Butterfly.
Kendrick's story originates in Compton, a jungle at its core, where he learned that survival depends
on working with others and keeping intact with your roots. Because of the harsh living environment
and unavoidable presence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to Tupac, Kendrick wanted to demonstrate characteristics of a great leader so he too could
be an example for his people.
Unfortunately, the excessive fame and separation from Compton came with harsh consequences:
Kendrick began to struggle with keeping in touch with his roots, and the ideals that hoisted him to
the throne. He expresses these emotions in the track Momma, where he states how he knows
everything about life, but goes on to realize that after reaching stardom, he may be out of touch with
his roots and all he knew. Throughout the rest of To Pimp A Butterfly, we find out he felt lost in "the
cocoon" a metaphor for the grasp media has on society, and desperately began to cling to his true
identity as a way to break free from the cocoon's bounds. Eventually, Kendrick emerges as a
butterfly, wanting to return home and teach all the "caterpillars" what he learned.
For Kendrick, African American oppression and Compton's black–on–black crime is at the forefront
of his frustration, and a prime inspiration for his need to teach the community about working
together. On the track simply called "I", a live recording, Kendrick is heard calling out to a crowd to
join together. Unfortunately, his message seems to initially fall on deaf ears. Instead of listening, the
crowd continues to fight over how to fix the problems in their community, rather than unite to fight
them together. As he continues to speak, the crowd becomes quieter, and Kendrick goes on to
condemn

The Film Adaptation Ever After Versus The Brothers Grimm...
The film, Ever After is an adaptation of the Brother's Grimm fairy tale adaptation, "Aschenputtle."
This film reflects a feminist attitude on the traditional view of the "damsel in distress" character
which is present in the Grimm's adaptation. Unlike Aschenputtle from the Grimm's tale, the
protagonist from the film, whose name is Danielle, does not hold true to the stereotype that all
women should be well mannered and well behaved at all times. Additionally, Danielle is a more
independent character with a stronger voice, as opposed to Aschenputtle who really does not speak
up for herself. Lastly, the Prince's focus is not solely based on looks in the film; he cares about
brains as well, where as the Prince in Aschenputtle cares far more ... Show more content on

Aschenputtle is referred to always acting "pious and good," which suggests the idea that ladies must
be on their best behavior at all times; they must always put on a proper act. As seen in this example,
it is obvious that Danielle does not feel the need to be perfect all of the time, where as Aschenputtle
has this "perfect persona" in which she must uphold to in order to be accepted. Another unladylike
situation is when Danielle throws apples at Prince Henry before she actually realizes he is the
Prince. She is under the impression that a random thief is stealing one of her Father's horses,
therefore; she feels that she should stand up in the name of her deceased father. She whips a
plentiful amount of apples and scolds the Prince very highly up until she realizes who he is. She
then bows down at his presence and states that if she knows she should be put to death. In this

Analytical Essay– Little Brother
Power Corrupts
Decisions taken by entities of higher power, only cause panic and uneasiness between the people
affected. In Cory Doctorow's novel, Little Brother, the government does not approve of those who
decide to defy control and think for themselves. The actions taken by the DHS after the Bay Bridge
bombing create feelings of terror amongst the citizens of San Francisco.
Over the course of the story, the DHS takes precautionary measures that contribute to the mental
trauma of the citizens. To begin with, Marcus is feeling unsafe in the place he considered his safe–
spot, this develops a serious case of paranoia and, causing doubt in his mind.

DHS disturb the peace of the people.
Along with mental trauma, the DHS is also the cause of physical trauma inflicted upon the citizens.
First, the DHS are is causing terror and physical pain amongst their own people by using harmful
chemicals in order to prove their point. At the concert in Dolores Park, the DHS decides to show up,
"Pepper spray. Not a hundred thousand Scovilles. A million and a half. They'd gassed the crowd. I
didn't see what happened next, but I heard it.... First the choking retching sounds.... Then coughing.
Then screaming. The screaming went on for a long time." (195–196). Rather than handling the issue
in a civilized way, the DHS takes drastic measures and releases harmful chemicals that cause panic
as well as pain on the crowd of all ages. Next, people in respected positions that stand up for their
rights are getting physically injured and abused by those who want to keep the country safe.

The Science Of Folklore By Richard Chase Essay
Just as considering Richard Chase's version of the history of The American Märchen Jack Tales is
naively one–dimensional, so is accepting the premise that every tale has a single, if meandering,
path back to a single culture. The noted folklorist Dr. Alexander Krappe discusses the diffusion of
tales in his book, The Science of Folklore. Dr. Krappe outlines that tales had two different dispersal
modes depending on their method of diffusion; whether by land or sea. If a tale was diffused by
land, the story spread in all directions similar to the ripples when an object is thrown into water. As
the ripples move away from the origin, the tale may be modified, changed, and diluted as it
progresses until it bears minimal similarities to the original version. His specific example concerns
the tales of the East Europeans, where an original central character is a vampire, but becomes more
'neutral' and 'washed out' as the tale progresses westward until the character of the vampire is
replaced with the character of an indifferent robber. Krappe proposes that tales which were
transferred by sea are more likely to remain close to their original version. Krappe illustrates this
opinion by pointing out that the Kirke episode of the Odyssey was carried to India via sea and
therefore the Ceylonese variant is more closely aligned to the Homeric original than any of the other
known versions (Krappe 39–40). . The term folk–lore was devised in 1846 by the William John
Thomas to replace the

Child Neglect And Abandonment Of The Brothers Grimms '...
Child neglect and abandonment, as well as their consequences and negative effects , lead to
devastating effects on children's development. Abandoned and betrayed children lose the trust
toward the adult world. The Brothers Grimms' "Hansel and Gretel" is the story of two children who
were twice betrayed and left to die by their own father. The father, on the other hand, is a partner in
crime of the stepmother, and both parents choose, in the time of famine, to save their lives instead of
their children. Alone in the forest, the symbol of life's cruelty, the children need to kill or to be
killed. They need to learn how to stand up for themselves and for each other, without the parental
love, guidance, and nurturing. In the process of this premature emotional growth, the children
should make difficult, but not necessarily moral choices, causing them to lose their innocence.
Basile's "Cinderella Cat" is the tale of a young motherless princess named Zezolla, who in the
process of growing up encounters people teaching her how to kill without remorse. She must use
anything at her disposal, in order to survive and climb from rags to riches. In the adult world that
betrays them, Zezolla, Hansel and Gretel learn how to kill, fight, seduce, and to stand up for
themselves. In this process, of being deprived of parental love/moral support, they lose their
innocence, acquire independence, and gain a problematic set of moral values. In "Hansel and Gretel"

Theodicy and Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov Essays
Theodicy and Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov
The problem of reconciling an omnipotent, perfectly just, perfectly benevolent god with a world full
of evil and suffering has plagued believers since the beginning of religious thought. Atheists often
site this paradox in order to demonstrate that such a god cannot exist and, therefore, that theism is an
invalid position. Theodicy is a branch of philosophy that seeks to defend religion by reconciling the
supposed existence of an omnipotent, perfectly just God with the presence of evil and suffering in
the world. In fact, the word "theodicy" consists of the Greek words "theos," or God, and "dike," or
justice (Knox 1981, 1). Thus, theodicy seeks to find a sense of divine justice in a ... Show more

This stylistic technique, referred to as polyphony, is a common characteristic of Dostoevsky's
writings. According to literary critic Mikhail Bakhtin, Dostoevsky's characters are not "voiceless
slaves, but free people, capable of standing next to their creator, capable of not agreeing with him
and even of rebelling against him" (Bakhtin 1994, 208). Additionally, the atheistic arguments
presented by Dostoevksy represent, to a significant degree, his own struggles with the problem of
theodicy, for "only a believer wrestling with his unbelief could speak with both voices with the same
strength of conviction" (Gibson 1973, 77). In setting forth these anti–theistic arguments, Dostoevsky
creates a powerful position, difficult to contend with for even the most devout and informed
believer. While this would seem to weaken Dostoevsky's defense of religion, it ultimately makes his
solution to the problem of theodicy stronger because he is able to overcome such a formidable
opposition.
Dostoevsky's presents the argument against religion through Ivan, the most intellectual of the three
brothers in The Brothers Karamazov. Ivan, a professed atheist, is terribly afflicted by the problem of
evil and by what he

The Problem of God in Devils and The Brothers Karamazov
In contemplating the creation of the novel The Idiot, Dostoyevsky wrote in a letter to A.N. Maikov
that he hoped to focus the work around a question "with which I have been tormented, consciously
or unconsciously all my life––that is, the existence of God."1 Dostoyevsky's personal struggle with
the question of faith, and also his own experience with trying doubts as a believer, are manifested in
the characters he writes. A large number of Dostoyevsky's books are written within the framework
of a Christian doctrine, juxtaposing characterizations of believers and non–believers, enforcing the
ultimate good and reason that follow from possessing a faith. Dostoyevsky also ... Show more

Moreover, these childhood associations seem to have strongly imprinted upon his mind, "This book
[the book of Job] Anna [his wife], it's strange –– is one of the first which made an impression on me
in life, I was just then only a little boy."5
While a large portion of Dostoyevsky's nurturing seems to have occurred in a Christian nest, he was
also exposed to the harsh qualities possessed by man. His father was, though reverent, a drunk, and
was later murdered by serfs on account of his inhumane treatment.6
This rougher sphere of his upbringing manifested itself in Dostoyevsky's early adulthood. He
became involved in a group known as the "Russian Utopian Socialists," influenced by Belinsky, a
well known literary critic. The partnership formed by the two presumably shook Dostoyevsky's
faith, as his revered mentor found that "as a socialist, he had to destroy Christianity in the first place.
He knew that the revolution must necessarily begin with atheism."7 Later, though, Dostoyevsky
broke off from the specific branch of the movement, forming the Durov circle. He was arrested for
"the circulation of a private letter full of insolent expressions against the Orthodox Church."8
Evidently, he had forgotten his mother's teachings.
While in prison (where the only book allowed was The Bible) it appears Dostoyevsky began to
reemerge as a believer, writing in a letter to Mrs. N.D. Fonvizin:

they did, but as the new century approached the Catholic educational needs of rural families from
northern Victoria and southern New South Wales had to be considered. In 1901 the first boarder was

The College continued to grow as a boys boarding school with a smaller day school component until

The year 1789 was when Marcellin Champagnat was born. At this time, the outbreak of the French

1789, the French population was 28 million and almost entirely catholic. By 1794, because of the

Fairy Tales : Cautionary Tales And The Effectiveness Of...
Fairy Tales: Cautionary Tales and the Effectiveness in Teaching a Lesson The tradition of telling
fairy tales to children effects not only the listener but also the reader. Maria Tatar, in her book Off
with Their Heads!, analyzes how fairy tales instill and reaffirm cultural values and expectations in
their audience . Tatar proposes that fairy tales fall into three different tale–types: cautionary tales,
exemplary stories, and reward– and– punishment tales. These three types portray different character
traits as desirable and undesirable. Due to the tale's varying literary methods it can change the
effectiveness of the tale's pedagogical value. In Tatar's opinion, all of these tales are similar in the
way they attempt to use punishment, reward, and fear to encourage or discourage certain behaviors.
In the cautionary fairy tale "The Virgin Mary's Child", the use of punishment and fear to discourage
certain behaviors is enhanced by the Christian motifs and values employed by the tale. These
literary devices encourage the audience to reflect on and internalize the lessons that are presented in
the fairy tale. In "The Virgin Mary's Child" the use of fear and punishment as pedagogical devices
gives the audience an exaggerated example of the negative outcome to discourage certain behaviors.
Cautionary tales are distinguished by the plot being centered around a prohibition by an
authoritative figure and a violation by the main character. The main character's disobedience is a

Analysis Of Dostoevsky And Kierkegaard 's ' The Grand...
What does it mean to have faith? This is not a question of, do you believe in the teachings of your
religion, but what is a true believer. Dostoevsky and Kierkegaard are two philosophers that
extensively delved with great contemplation and introspection of what it means to be a Christian.
Both of these philosophers took a critical microscope to the typical Christian teachings of how to be
a "good Christian." What both of these philosophers eventually deduced is that the traditional
teachings of Christianity remove the person from from ever truly finding the meaning behind their
faith; thus separating the devoted from the divine. For both Dostoevsky and Kierkegaard, to be a
Christian is more than going through the motions of what the church leaders tell you, but to find out
for oneself why they ultimately believe. To convey his notions, Ivan, the main character of
Dostoevsky's story, creates the character the Grand Inquisitor. The Grand Inquisitor is symbolic of
the catholic church and the control they hold over the followers of Catholicism. In this story, the
Grand Inquisitor is faced with Jesus Christ, whom has come back to earth for the second coming. In
on particular instance, The Inquisitor challenges Christ by saying, "Didst Thou forget that man
prefers peace, and even death, to freedom of choice in the knowledge of good and evil? Nothing is
more seductive for man than his freedom of conscience, but nothing is a greater cause of suffering"
(Dostoevsky, pg 12). To the

The Character Of Linda From Blood Simple, By Frances...
The character of Linda is very similar to the character of Abby from Blood Simple, who was also
portrayed by Frances McDormand. Abby is described as the "woman whose weakness and
dissatisfaction set the story in motion. She saves herself against all odds, but this is more of a matter
of random good fortune than of either sangfroid or intelligence" (16–17). A similar case could be
made for Linda. Linda's dissatisfaction with her body and need to "reinvent" herself drives the plot
as she desperately tries to acquire money to pay for her plastic surgeries. She fails to recognize that
the "intel" she thinks she has is completely useless, and she still selfishly pushes onwards coming up
with plan after plan, without even realizing the deadly full extent of her actions.
Alan Woolfolk comments in "Deceit, Desire, and Dark Comedy: Postmodern Dead Ends in Blood
Simple" that in Blood Simple, Abby's "misunderstanding...[made] her an unintentional femme
fatale" (Woolfolk 88). This would also make Linda the unintentional femme fatale in Burn After
Reading since she inadvertently leads to the downfall of Ted, Osbourne, Harry, and Chad. Ted and
Chad are both killed while on the mission to secure money for Linda's surgeries. Osbourne is put
into a coma because he tried to kill Ted, who was only at Osbourne's house out of his love for Linda.
Harry also goes crazy in part because of Linda's cluelessness. While Linda may indeed be clueless,

A Little Bit About The Wright Brothers Past.
Since the beginning of time, man has had the desire to fly like the birds. Many men created
machines they had hoped would allow them to fly with ease. Some were on the right track, but just
couldn't quite make it work; others failed miserably. It wasn't until two brothers from Dayton, Ohio,
who dreamed like many to fly, put their heads together. And through hard work, perseverance, and
creativity, made the dream of powered flight come true. Orville and Wilbur Wright were the
pioneers of powered flight, and opened the doors to the future of aviation. In order to understand
how this all became possible, we first need to know a little bit about the Wright brothers past.

And thus Orville and Wilbur Wright developed the far too familiar dream of flight. Opening the
doors of aviation means that everything had to start somewhere. For the Wright brothers that began
in 1899 when Wilbur later wrote to the Smithsonian asking for books on aeronautics and technology
on May 30, 1899, according to Milestones of Aviation by Smithsonian Institution National Air and
Space Museum. Later in 1899 Orville and Wilbur built their first biplane kite which Wilbur flew in
July and August of 1899. July and August were the prime flying months because of the air
conditions and weather, which is why you will notice that the Wright brothers fly mainly in the
summer months of late June, July, and early August. The Wright brothers later built upon their first
glider, recreating and improving it. Their more successful glider was flown by both Orville and
Wilbur at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. On September 12, 1900, shipping crates transported the 52
pound (without a pilot), 165 square feet glider to Kill Devil Hills. In 1902, they glided a total of 700
times which is a major accomplishment considering that these glides weren't just any "glides" that
they did with their 1899 glider kite, because these flights were manned. No one before them had
successfully flown a manned glider, this was a major milestone for the future of aviation. If Orville
and Wilbur had not successfully created this amazing contraption, we would still

The government has control over people in the form of surveillance which then exploits their

In the aftermath of surveillance the lack of privacy created by constant surveillance leads to fear of
the government. Marcus is one of those people who are in constant fear of the DHS. When Masha

Gender in Little Red Riding Hood of Charles Perrault Essay
Folktales are a way to represent situations analyzing different prospects about gender, through the
stories that contribute with the reality of the culture in which they develop while these provide ideas
about the behavior and roles of a specific sex building a culture of womanhood, manhood and
childhood. This is what the stories of Little Red Riding Hood of Charles Perrault (1697) and Little
Red–Cap of the Grimm Brothers (1812) show. This essay will describe some ideas about gender in
different ways. First, the use of symbolic characters allows getting general ideas about the

In addition, the Grimm's version provides another male character "the huntsman", the savior of the
story, a brave and strong man at the time that he goes into the grandmother's house and cuts the
wolf's belly in order to rescue the women. In brief, men are portrayed as superior and intelligent in
contrast with the weak and ignorant women which argues the patriarchal society of that era.
The second point explains how the plot brings ideas about gender, understanding the actions through
the dialogues between the different characters. The tale describes the task that Little Red Riding
Hood is given by her mother when she is said to go to her grandmother's house by herself in
"another village" which refers to a far away place; it shows the ignorance of the mother to send a
little girl alone without any warning; although in Grimm's tale the mother gives the child a very
detailed warning where it is visible that the girl is less able to think and realize the danger by herself.
This action demonstrates the danger for the girl to go alone since she can be persuaded by a stranger
and fall in unfortunate consequences, in this case she is eaten by the wolf. Meanwhile,

The Worst Recession Of The United States
At the end of the 20th century, it was clear that the United States national economy was on a incline.
The U.S began winning the worldwide arms race, holding 50% of the world weapons stockpile
(Taylor 10). Capitalism, the main trademark of the United States economy, spread like a wildfire
across the majority of the world (Taylor 10). To the uneducated ear, news like this sounds great; the
United States is slowly taking over the world. However, this insane growth was actually poising the
U.S. for an extreme downfall in the coming years of the early 21st century. The major downfall
would come to be known as the worst recession in our history since the infamous Great Depression.
While there are several speculated causes to the recession of 2007, one cause that stands out is the
housing bubble burst. "As the housing bubble burst and trillions of dollars ' worth of toxic
mortgages began to go bad in 2007, fear spread through the massive firms that form the heart of
Wall Street ("Meltdown")". The first repercussions of the housing bubble bursting were the floating
rumors about the investment bank, Bear Stearns. The rumors of the bank 's imminent bankruptcy
were so abundant, that they became a self fulfilling prophecy ("Meltdown"). In an attempt to save
the bank, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke created a deal with JPMorgan ("Meltdown").

going through a political reform as well as dealing with the end of the "Great Society" era. Things
were bad both inside and outside prison walls. Prisoners heard about the incredibly horrific
conditions outside of their walls and believed that they should be allowed to do, or at least say

Conditions inside the prison were no better. For starters, many of the prisoners were those who had

The Importance Of Language In My Life
When we interact with someone for the first time, read our favorite novel, and even take a trip
outside of our hometown our language was impacted at some point. Language is a tool that has
shaped my own character and made me the young lady that I am today. Language allows us to
negotiate. Without language, society would not be able to function because there is no
communication. We cannot learn properly because it hinders our well–being that enables us to evoke
feelings and thoughts. Even though language has made an impact in my life through interacting with
individuals on an interpersonal level, it has improved my reading and writing abilities because of
two major events in my life.
The aspect of language has allowed me to adapt to others and develop strong relationships. I had the
privilege to attend a mission trip to Esopus, New York in my junior year of high school because of

"Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive
the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him" (James 1:12). Orville and Wilbur
Wright's journey towards becoming famous aviators brought about many challenges. They
encountered physical injuries, educational setbacks, and numerous failed experiments, yet remained
determined to build a perfect aircraft. James 1:12 mentions the importance of keeping faith during
times of distress, a principle the Wright Brothers lived by. Despite every dilemma they faced,
Orville and Wilbur's perseverance is what made them a legend. Wilbur was the first brother to
encounter a curveball (or shall I say, a curve–puck?). After being badly injured in an ice hockey
game, he was unable to continue his education or peruse his dreams of going to Yale. His injury
brought about many negative implications, but he refused to give up. He remained at home,
educating himself by reading from his father's library, until eventually going into business with his
brother Orville. Originally, they operated a paper business, but eventually, they followed their
passion for mechanics and opened up a Cycle Shop. While they worked to repair broken handlebars
and pedals, they became inspired by the research of Otto Lilienthal, a famous aviator. After hearing
of his death in a glider crash, Orville and Wilbur became determined to create the first powered
aircraft. Attempting to understand the laws of

Fairy Tales By Jakob And Wilhelm Grimm

  • 1. Fairy Tales by Jakob and Wilhelm Grimm Introduction: Fairy tales were a big part of my childhood. I started my research on fairy tales written by Jakob and Wilhelm Grimm. Fairy tales often have a character that goes on a journey or an adventure. During his journey he encounters mystical beings that help or hurt the characters success. When I was a child, my grandparents would tell my sister and I stories like "Jack and the Bean Stalk" and "Little Red Riding Hood". My grandfather would always act out the part of the wolf or the giant, while my grandma told the story. The fairy tales by the brothers Grimm were very popular and some were retold by Disney. But Disney's versions were much less graphic than the original tales. I believe that fairy tales are a big part of child's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They wrote tales like "Little Red–Cap", where a little girl is tricked by a wolf into getting herself and her grandmother eaten. Luckily a hunter saves them by cutting open the wolf's stomach. Jakob, the smarter of the two, went on in later years "to define the relationship between similar word of different languages, this became known as Grimm's law" (O'Neill, par.8). Both brothers were professors at the University of Gottingen. Both were dismissed for political reasons. They then moved to Berlin, where they again became professors and were professors until they died (O'Neill, par.9). Many of stories they published were very unique which is probably why they became so popular. One unique characteristic that relates to all of all the stories I read by the brothers Grimm was that a problem arises with magic and is resolved with violence. In "Little Red Cap", the wolf can talk and it eats the grandmother and girl whole. The problem that arises in "The Seven Ravens" is the daughter of a king and queen discovers that her parents had her seven brothers turned in to ravens. The violent solution to "Little Red–Caps" problem is they are saved by a hunter that cuts open the wolf's stomach. In the "The Seven Ravens" the daughter goes on a journey to find the key of her brothers' glass mountain prison. She loses the key but instead she cuts off a finger and uses that. Even though the characters and plot twists in each story are violent and graphic, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Animal Helper And The Human Hero This literary analysis will define the role of the animal helper and the theme of protection for the human hero in the fairy tale tradition. In the classical fairy tale, the "donor" or animal helper is a crucial element to the survival and success of the mina hero, since they are typically animals that provide assistance in the journey or quest. This form of intervention is an important aspect of the animal helper's role in guiding the hero towards self–realization. The animal helper also supports the notion of a heroic human protagonist, which helps to promote the individuals' progress through acts of good deeds and support throughout the tale. These are interlocking parts of the relationship between the animal helper and the human hero, which provide a cooperative foundation for achieving a certain goal in the fairy tales of the Brother's Grimm and other European fairy tale traditions. In essence, a literary analysis of the role of the animal helper and the them of protection will be defined in this examination of the fairy tale tradition. The animal helper provides a longstanding tradition in the classical European fairy tale. In many fairy tales, a talking animal interacts with a human hero to help them overcome the "destroyer" that is attempting to thwart their dreams of success or achievement in the world. For example, Grimm's fairy Hansel and Gretel utilizes a white duck that brings them across the water, since there is no bridge: "The duckling came up to them, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Aircraft Of The Field Of Aviation A pilot is someone who is certified to operate aircraft in order to transport goods and/or passengers from one location to the next, for leisure, business and commercial purposes. Pilots can be employed by the government, corporations, commercial airlines, and can sometimes be self–employed. Aircraft are usually operated by two pilots, who will take turns in controlling the aircraft to avoid fatigue. Pilots are very essential to the function of the field in aviation. • 12. A Report On Aircraft Fuel Efficiency Report on research Project. Abstract: Aircraft fuel efficiency has improved significantly since the beginning of the jet era in the 1960s, and from 1970 to 2000 total energy intensity was reduced by more than 60%. Fuel burn is a key determinant of aviation economics given that fuel costs account for up to 35% of total aviation costs. The aviation industry has therefore focused on fuel efficiency improvement through engine and aircraft innovation which has resulted in a reduction in total energy intensity of more than 60% since 1970. There are a number of evolutionary technologies that could help achieve further fuel efficiency improvements in new aircraft over the next 20 years. Aviation engineers have been working on silent aircraft and using 3D systems in aircraft to make precise aircraft design which will be very useful for cargo purposes and for travellers to reach their destinations. Students of Cambridge university are also been working on silent aircraft which will reduce the aircraft noise and improve the fuel efficiency. I set out to analysis that main sections. Scope for improvement in aircraft fuel efficiency Scenario for improvement in annual fleet fuel efficiency Historical fuel efficiency improvements and material used in aircraft Future improvement from evolutionary technology innovations Silent aircraft Initiative design for the future Introduction: Wilbur and Orville Wright were the pioneers of aviation. • 14. Aeronautical Pioneers: The Story of Orville and Wilbur Wright Imagine life without airplanes. Imagine a life without the security they gives us from conflicts and wars, without the ability to send packages and mail swiftly across long distances, or without the ability to travel anywhere in the world in a relatively short amount of time. Luckily we don't have to worry about any of these things most of the time, all thanks to the "pioneers of modern aviation," Orville and Wilbur Wright ("Orville Wright" 2). Through their successful invention and flight of the first powered aircraft, we can live better lives than what was before ever possible. Therefore, I feel it is only common sense for them to be inducted into the History Hall of Fame. To further uphold the previous statement on this matter, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Later in life before famously developing the powered aircraft, they both went on to collaborate in owning two different newspapers, both of which failed ("The Wright Family"), and even later in 1892, they again, while both having an extraordinary passion for fixing and selling bicycles, collaborated in opening up their own shop concerning that passion ("Wilbur Wright" 1). Later, after developing the first powered aircraft in 1903, of which I will elaborate more on in a later paragraph, and demonstrating it with success in 1909, they grew a business off of their triumph, became very wealthy, even beginning to build a family estate in Dayton, Ohio with their wealth ("Orville Wright" 2), and even through first first developing stages, the brothers shared credit for everything ("Wilbur Wright" 1). Even though they were brothers and business partners in the aeronautical engineering industry, May 25, 1910 became the day where the Wright brothers flew with each other, for six minutes, for the first and only time ever in their lives ("Orville Wright" 2). That same day also became the day where the 82–year–old father of these pioneers in history ever flew with one of his sons, happening to be Orville ("Orville Wright" 2). I have learned my weaknesses through peer reviews, and the feedbacks that I received from you. This cover letter will address four of the course learning outcomes for English 110 such as, how to write effectively using a number of rhetorical strategies and patterns, demonstrate the ability to synthesize materials drawn from multiple sources using critical reflection and independent judgment, write a research paper of 2,500 words, and carry out essential steps in the writing process. I enclosed three works that I have submitted for this course which are, "The Journey of a Small Town Girl," "The Wright Brothers," and my research paper titled "The Dirty Dozen." My purpose in writing the literacy narrative was to let different audiences to have a taste of what the struggle of an immigrant is like. This was the first paper that I had to write for this class and it was the easiest out of all. I got to express my struggles in a very unique way. During my peer review session for this paper, I was able to see my mistakes such as verb tense agreement, word choice and awkward phrasing. I learned to not use abbreviations throughout this piece because a mixed audience may not be familiar with them. I think the best part of my narrative is my introduction and conclusion. • 20. The Tale Of Little Red Cap Fairy tales present a sense of life and fantasy with the use of literary techniques, like animism and imagery, creates a strong appeal for children (Favat, 1977). Throughout time fairy tales have embodied the current state of social construction, perspectives and ideologies of society. These views are embedded in the child's mind from an early age influencing their discernment of relationship, mores, ingenuity and persona. One of the most iconic children story retold and adapted in all major languages for three centuries is the classic tale of Little Red Riding Hood. The story originated through oral traditions during the 17th century in France and has numerous versions over the years representing the evolving social mores. The Grimm Brother's version of the tale, Little Red Cap, was rewritten in 1812 in Germany illustrating core communal principles of their time. The adaptations of their work underlines complex societal and political setting during the 19th century. Through attitudes of the characters, imagery, and symbolism, Little Red Cap illustrates Victorian ideas on obedience, patriarchal beliefs, female sexuality influencing children's understanding of gender role and behavioural traits. These ideas are then passed over through generation influencing modern views on the specific subjects including gender roles. In Grimms' wide collection of cautionary tales, there is a common inference of how both female and male should act through fictional character's personas and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. The Lais Of Marie De France The extent to which the Lais of Marie de France can be categorized as fairy tales is dependent on the definition of "fairy tale." Using various scholars' definitions of "fairy tale" and conceptions of the fairy tale genre, criteria for "fairy tales" arises. Then, close–readings of three lais, "Guigemar", "Lanval" and "Yonec", are used as a mechanism for meeting or failing the criteria. This methodology is then evaluated and problematized. The criterion for fairy tales includes origin, form, content, style, and meaning. Etymologically, the word 'fairy tale' has disputed origins. Supposedly, it comes from the French "contes des fees" or "tales about fairies", popular in French courts and salons in the seventeenth century. However, Jack Zipes argues that "conte féerique" actually translates to "fairy tales" and refers to narrative form, rather than content. If defined from "conte féerique", a work is a fairy tale due to its narrative form. Narrative form is in turn defined in two ways, as the process of narration or as the narrative account itself, known as the story. Firstly, the fairy tale process of narration has a consensus definition, determined by its origin and function. Secondly, the narrative account of a fairy tale encompasses several sub–sections including setting, characters, and style. Fairy tales originate in the oral tradition of folk tales. Both Vladimir Propp and Karel Čapek argue that key to this tradition is the repeated interaction between performer and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. The Fairy Tales By The Grimm Brothers Society has and always will continue to have a great influence on many things such as, music, to movies, and even fairy tales that we thought we knew so well. More specifically, society has influenced the Grimm fairy tales. The original Grimms ' tales that were collected would now be considered dark, gruesome, explicit and something that children should not, for any reason read. Because of this, over time society wanted a change in what their children were hearing, reading and now seeing. The tales have been changed and sugar coated to become as what we know them as today. Disney is highly responsible, in part, for the innocent versions that today 's early generations have been exposed. It begins with the Grimm brothers' long journey across Germany to study language or also known as linguistics; and from here, society 's influence at the time started with the creation of the tales. The Grimm brothers were well–known and fascinating story–tellers. Most of us who have seen the classic Disney movies such as Cinderella and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs have viewed an innocent and warmhearted version of the gruesome and dark tales that are known from the Grimm fairy–tales. In the beginning of their journey, the brothers had no intention of becoming world famous story–tellers. An article called the "Grimms ' Fairy Tales" states that the brothers found that the best way to allow someone to share the sounds of their dialect was to share the stories that had been passed down to ... • 26. Different Versions Of Sleeping Beauty Stretch From The... Various versions of Sleeping Beauty stretch from the middle of the Renaissance period to contemporary settings. The Ninth Captain's Tale by Arabian Nights is the earliest, recorded even before its 1550 publishing (cite). In Italy, Giambattista Basile writes Sun, Moon and Talia, which is the first record of the Sleeping Beauty tale in Europe. Charles Perrault's Sleeping Beauty in the Wood revises the tale, making it more children friendly and most similar to the Brother's Grimm version familiar with many children. Common throughout these stories, the princess character's helpless nature is romanticized, not to mention the popular story of a prince finding a sleeping princess and the two living happily ever. Despite this fairy tale's popularity, the several versions of Sleeping Beauty endorse a submissive and powerless female by establishing a surreal, magical setting around the sleeping princess character, dampening the alarming actions of the prince and systemic lack of female agency. Magical elements present themselves throughout each of these fairy tales. The princess character in each version is magically put to sleep or death. Perrault's version has a fairy with a chariot of fire, pull by dragons. However, when the prince character is introduced, the description of the surreal setting around the princess is emphasized, primarily the princess character's place of rest. The matrix sets were designed to have a worn and torn look that was imposing and grid–like. The scenes depicting the characters in the real world mostly took place on the ship, Nebuchadnezzar. These sets were designed to have a "patched–up" look where the wires and components of the ship were clearly visible, communicating the idea to the audience that the ship is a "marriage between man and machine." In addition to how the sets looked, how the scenes were shot within those sets added to theme as well. When the characters were within the matrix, the scenes were shot using a green tint, mimicking the feel of early monochrome computer monitors. When the characters were in the real world, they used a blue tint and longer shot lenses which soften the background while putting more emphasis on the characters. As I also mentioned earlier, the actual appearance of the characters in the film is another component in the theme of appearance verses reality. When the main characters are in the real world, they are shown with having a connection port on the back of their necks. • 30. Significance Of Matriarchal Societies : A Woman 's Honor... Sumiya Monaf Professor Badalato ENG1100C December 13, 2015 Significance of Matriarchal Societies in Tales A woman's honor and reputation differs from culture to culture. In many cultures, women are expected to only bear children and become housewives. Some women are only allowed to work in certain fields that might only be permissible for what "women" would be capable enough to handle. Women until this day earn just 78 cents for every dollar a man earns. What must this go to prevail? One can only say that even today in our own modern society, we see clashes between the province of different sexes and tension between gender equality. Our social systems are divided into two norms, Matriarchal and Patriarchal. A matriarch is defined as a woman who is the central figure for her family, group, and or political administration. The term for males is the patriarch, a male who dominates his family, group, and his descendants. Both societies are reciprocal to one another; however, due to cultural belief the matriarchal society still falls under the shell that women are "soft" and "need support" from no one other than a male authoritative figure. In this paper, I will claim how many tales exemplify women to be these inferior characters who are abided into such gender bias stereotypes. Issues such as oppression, sexism, misogyny, and rape are all aspects that objectify the female society, which allows for misconceptions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For instance, in his article "Dostoevsky did not say it" D.Cortesi claims that Dostoevsky did not make such claim (Cortesi 1). However, the research by Russian–speaking authors shows that the original text of "The Brothers Karamazov" contains the statement under study (Volkov 1). Coming to the scope of the claim, one should concentrate on the reasons for making such claim, as well as the relation between the moral beliefs of secular humanists and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many religions have well–developed value frameworks that help adherents distinguish between moral and immoral actions, serving as their guides in all the situations that require choosing the model of behavior. The frameworks that regulate personal behavior, suing the categories of morality and immorality, manifest themselves in the form of holy books, written and oral traditions and the statements of religious leaders. The second reason lies in the fact that the scope of basic principles of religious and secular morality is the same. For instance, the norms of moral behavior that are contained in the Ten Commandments (e.g., the prohibition of murder, adultery and theft) are shared both by deists and Atheists. Thirdly, religious people tend to think that God had created everything in the world. Therefore, it is quite natural for them to think that God had created morality. Thus they see morality and religion as either two inseparable notions or even the one that finds its roots in the idea of God. The historically formed link between the morality and religion, the universal nature of moral values and the doctrine of God's will as a source of everything that exists in the world can be viewed as prerequisite for the formation of the point under study. Almost 60 years later in 1999 the Wachowski brothers wrote and directed one of the greatest film trilogies of all time, The Matrix. Both the novel and the movies depicted post apocalyptic dystopian worlds under some form of an oppressive government. Oppression, control, and sexuality are some of the prominent themes throughout the storylines. While some may argue that the novel 1984 did not inspire the Wachowski brothers, many clear similarities, but also differences, lie within the script of the trilogy. 1984 is thought to be one of the greatest dystopian works in the 20th century. Orwell wrote the novel with allusions to both Nazi Germany and communist Russia. He told his vision of the future of the planet. The main character Winston Smith is a government worker in a dystopian society. The government controls almost all aspects of life; from their jobs to entertainment, leisure, and most importantly every citizen is constantly monitored. People do not rebel because the government controls the past. They change history in their favor to maintain complete and utter power and control. Navigating forward requires keeping healthy relationships with the community and those close to you, maintaining focus on your true identity, and not losing sight of larger than life goals. These ideals are the message that Kendrick Lamar wishes to bestow upon whomever experiences his latest album, To Pimp A Butterfly. Similar to Tupac, Kendrick wanted to demonstrate characteristics of a great leader so he too could be an example for his people. Unfortunately, the excessive fame and separation from Compton came with harsh consequences: Kendrick began to struggle with keeping in touch with his roots, and the ideals that hoisted him to the throne. He expresses these emotions in the track Momma, where he states how he knows everything about life, but goes on to realize that after reaching stardom, he may be out of touch with his roots and all he knew. Throughout the rest of To Pimp A Butterfly, we find out he felt lost in "the cocoon" a metaphor for the grasp media has on society, and desperately began to cling to his true identity as a way to break free from the cocoon's bounds. Eventually, Kendrick emerges as a butterfly, wanting to return home and teach all the "caterpillars" what he learned. For Kendrick, African American oppression and Compton's black–on–black crime is at the forefront of his frustration, and a prime inspiration for his need to teach the community about working together. On the track simply called "I", a live recording, Kendrick is heard calling out to a crowd to join together. Unfortunately, his message seems to initially fall on deaf ears. Instead of listening, the crowd continues to fight over how to fix the problems in their community, rather than unite to fight them together. This film reflects a feminist attitude on the traditional view of the "damsel in distress" character which is present in the Grimm's adaptation. Unlike Aschenputtle from the Grimm's tale, the protagonist from the film, whose name is Danielle, does not hold true to the stereotype that all women should be well mannered and well behaved at all times. Additionally, Danielle is a more independent character with a stronger voice, as opposed to Aschenputtle who really does not speak up for herself. Aschenputtle is referred to always acting "pious and good," which suggests the idea that ladies must be on their best behavior at all times; they must always put on a proper act. As seen in this example, it is obvious that Danielle does not feel the need to be perfect all of the time, where as Aschenputtle has this "perfect persona" in which she must uphold to in order to be accepted. Another unladylike situation is when Danielle throws apples at Prince Henry before she actually realizes he is the Prince. She is under the impression that a random thief is stealing one of her Father's horses, therefore; she feels that she should stand up in the name of her deceased father. She whips a plentiful amount of apples and scolds the Prince very highly up until she realizes who he is. She then bows down at his presence and states that if she knows she should be put to death. In this particular example, she does stand up for herself, yet she does back down to the Prince because he is of a higher social class and power. Even though there are many instances where she is an independent and outspoken woman, this is one of the few times where she falters in the presence of a man. • 42. The Science Of Folklore By Richard Chase Essay Just as considering Richard Chase's version of the history of The American Märchen Jack Tales is naively one–dimensional, so is accepting the premise that every tale has a single, if meandering, path back to a single culture. The noted folklorist Dr. Alexander Krappe discusses the diffusion of tales in his book, The Science of Folklore. Dr. Krappe outlines that tales had two different dispersal modes depending on their method of diffusion; whether by land or sea. If a tale was diffused by land, the story spread in all directions similar to the ripples when an object is thrown into water. As the ripples move away from the origin, the tale may be modified, changed, and diluted as it progresses until it bears minimal similarities to the original version. His specific example concerns the tales of the East Europeans, where an original central character is a vampire, but becomes more 'neutral' and 'washed out' as the tale progresses westward until the character of the vampire is replaced with the character of an indifferent robber. Krappe proposes that tales which were transferred by sea are more likely to remain close to their original version. Krappe illustrates this opinion by pointing out that the Kirke episode of the Odyssey was carried to India via sea and therefore the Ceylonese variant is more closely aligned to the Homeric original than any of the other known versions (Krappe 39–40). . Child neglect and abandonment, as well as their consequences and negative effects , lead to devastating effects on children's development. Abandoned and betrayed children lose the trust toward the adult world. The Brothers Grimms' "Hansel and Gretel" is the story of two children who were twice betrayed and left to die by their own father. The father, on the other hand, is a partner in crime of the stepmother, and both parents choose, in the time of famine, to save their lives instead of their children. Alone in the forest, the symbol of life's cruelty, the children need to kill or to be killed. They need to learn how to stand up for themselves and for each other, without the parental love, guidance, and nurturing. In the process of this premature emotional growth, the children should make difficult, but not necessarily moral choices, causing them to lose their innocence. Basile's "Cinderella Cat" is the tale of a young motherless princess named Zezolla, who in the process of growing up encounters people teaching her how to kill without remorse. She must use anything at her disposal, in order to survive and climb from rags to riches. In the adult world that betrays them, Zezolla, Hansel and Gretel learn how to kill, fight, seduce, and to stand up for themselves. In this process, of being deprived of parental love/moral support, they lose their innocence, acquire independence, and gain a problematic set of moral values. Theodicy and Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov Essays Theodicy and Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov The problem of reconciling an omnipotent, perfectly just, perfectly benevolent god with a world full of evil and suffering has plagued believers since the beginning of religious thought. Atheists often site this paradox in order to demonstrate that such a god cannot exist and, therefore, that theism is an invalid position. Theodicy is a branch of philosophy that seeks to defend religion by reconciling the supposed existence of an omnipotent, perfectly just God with the presence of evil and suffering in the world. In fact, the word "theodicy" consists of the Greek words "theos," or God, and "dike," or justice (Knox 1981, 1). Thus, theodicy seeks to find a sense of divine justice in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This stylistic technique, referred to as polyphony, is a common characteristic of Dostoevsky's writings. According to literary critic Mikhail Bakhtin, Dostoevsky's characters are not "voiceless slaves, but free people, capable of standing next to their creator, capable of not agreeing with him and even of rebelling against him" (Bakhtin 1994, 208). Additionally, the atheistic arguments presented by Dostoevksy represent, to a significant degree, his own struggles with the problem of theodicy, for "only a believer wrestling with his unbelief could speak with both voices with the same strength of conviction" (Gibson 1973, 77). In setting forth these anti–theistic arguments, Dostoevsky creates a powerful position, difficult to contend with for even the most devout and informed believer. While this would seem to weaken Dostoevsky's defense of religion, it ultimately makes his solution to the problem of theodicy stronger because he is able to overcome such a formidable opposition. The Problem of God in Devils and The Brothers Karamazov In contemplating the creation of the novel The Idiot, Dostoyevsky wrote in a letter to A.N. His father was, though reverent, a drunk, and was later murdered by serfs on account of his inhumane treatment.6 This rougher sphere of his upbringing manifested itself in Dostoyevsky's early adulthood. He became involved in a group known as the "Russian Utopian Socialists," influenced by Belinsky, a well known literary critic. The partnership formed by the two presumably shook Dostoyevsky's faith, as his revered mentor found that "as a socialist, he had to destroy Christianity in the first place. He knew that the revolution must necessarily begin with atheism."7 Later, though, Dostoyevsky broke off from the specific branch of the movement, forming the Durov circle. He was arrested for "the circulation of a private letter full of insolent expressions against the Orthodox Church."8 Evidently, he had forgotten his mother's teachings. Fairy Tales: Cautionary Tales and the Effectiveness in Teaching a Lesson The tradition of telling fairy tales to children effects not only the listener but also the reader. Maria Tatar, in her book Off with Their Heads!, analyzes how fairy tales instill and reaffirm cultural values and expectations in their audience . Tatar proposes that fairy tales fall into three different tale–types: cautionary tales, exemplary stories, and reward– and– punishment tales. These three types portray different character traits as desirable and undesirable. Due to the tale's varying literary methods it can change the effectiveness of the tale's pedagogical value. In Tatar's opinion, all of these tales are similar in the way they attempt to use punishment, reward, and fear to encourage or discourage certain behaviors. In the cautionary fairy tale "The Virgin Mary's Child", the use of punishment and fear to discourage certain behaviors is enhanced by the Christian motifs and values employed by the tale. These literary devices encourage the audience to reflect on and internalize the lessons that are presented in the fairy tale. In "The Virgin Mary's Child" the use of fear and punishment as pedagogical devices gives the audience an exaggerated example of the negative outcome to discourage certain behaviors. Cautionary tales are distinguished by the plot being centered around a prohibition by an authoritative figure and a violation by the main character. The main character's disobedience is a ... • 58. Analysis Of Dostoevsky And Kierkegaard 's ' The Grand... What does it mean to have faith? This is not a question of, do you believe in the teachings of your religion, but what is a true believer. Dostoevsky and Kierkegaard are two philosophers that extensively delved with great contemplation and introspection of what it means to be a Christian. Both of these philosophers took a critical microscope to the typical Christian teachings of how to be a "good Christian." What both of these philosophers eventually deduced is that the traditional teachings of Christianity remove the person from from ever truly finding the meaning behind their faith; thus separating the devoted from the divine. For both Dostoevsky and Kierkegaard, to be a Christian is more than going through the motions of what the church leaders tell you, but to find out for oneself why they ultimately believe. To convey his notions, Ivan, the main character of Dostoevsky's story, creates the character the Grand Inquisitor. The Grand Inquisitor is symbolic of the catholic church and the control they hold over the followers of Catholicism. In this story, the Grand Inquisitor is faced with Jesus Christ, whom has come back to earth for the second coming. In on particular instance, The Inquisitor challenges Christ by saying, "Didst Thou forget that man prefers peace, and even death, to freedom of choice in the knowledge of good and evil? Nothing is more seductive for man than his freedom of conscience, but nothing is a greater cause of suffering" (Dostoevsky, pg 12). To the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 60. The Character Of Linda From Blood Simple, By Frances... The character of Linda is very similar to the character of Abby from Blood Simple, who was also portrayed by Frances McDormand. Abby is described as the "woman whose weakness and dissatisfaction set the story in motion. She saves herself against all odds, but this is more of a matter of random good fortune than of either sangfroid or intelligence" (16–17). A similar case could be made for Linda. Linda's dissatisfaction with her body and need to "reinvent" herself drives the plot as she desperately tries to acquire money to pay for her plastic surgeries. She fails to recognize that the "intel" she thinks she has is completely useless, and she still selfishly pushes onwards coming up with plan after plan, without even realizing the deadly full extent of her actions. Alan Woolfolk comments in "Deceit, Desire, and Dark Comedy: Postmodern Dead Ends in Blood Simple" that in Blood Simple, Abby's "misunderstanding...[made] her an unintentional femme fatale" (Woolfolk 88). This would also make Linda the unintentional femme fatale in Burn After Reading since she inadvertently leads to the downfall of Ted, Osbourne, Harry, and Chad. Ted and Chad are both killed while on the mission to secure money for Linda's surgeries. Osbourne is put into a coma because he tried to kill Ted, who was only at Osbourne's house out of his love for Linda. Harry also goes crazy in part because of Linda's cluelessness. While Linda may indeed be clueless, her actions drive the plot of the film and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 62. A Little Bit About The Wright Brothers Past. Since the beginning of time, man has had the desire to fly like the birds. Many men created machines they had hoped would allow them to fly with ease. Some were on the right track, but just couldn't quite make it work; others failed miserably. It wasn't until two brothers from Dayton, Ohio, who dreamed like many to fly, put their heads together. And through hard work, perseverance, and creativity, made the dream of powered flight come true. Orville and Wilbur Wright were the pioneers of powered flight, and opened the doors to the future of aviation. In order to understand how this all became possible, we first need to know a little bit about the Wright brothers past. Wilbur Wright was the older of the two brothers was born on April 16, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And thus Orville and Wilbur Wright developed the far too familiar dream of flight. Opening the doors of aviation means that everything had to start somewhere. For the Wright brothers that began in 1899 when Wilbur later wrote to the Smithsonian asking for books on aeronautics and technology on May 30, 1899, according to Milestones of Aviation by Smithsonian Institution National Air and Space Museum. Later in 1899 Orville and Wilbur built their first biplane kite which Wilbur flew in July and August of 1899. July and August were the prime flying months because of the air conditions and weather, which is why you will notice that the Wright brothers fly mainly in the summer months of late June, July, and early August. The Wright brothers later built upon their first glider, recreating and improving it. Their more successful glider was flown by both Orville and Wilbur at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. On September 12, 1900, shipping crates transported the 52 pound (without a pilot), 165 square feet glider to Kill Devil Hills. In 1902, they glided a total of 700 times which is a major accomplishment considering that these glides weren't just any "glides" that they did with their 1899 glider kite, because these flights were manned. No one before them had successfully flown a manned glider, this was a major milestone for the future of aviation. If Orville and Wilbur had not successfully created this amazing contraption, we would still ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My heart thudded and my blood sang in a cruel parody... [T]his wasn't sexual excitement, it was raw terror...'so they're coming after you using Xnet'"(275). • 68. Gender in Little Red Riding Hood of Charles Perrault Essay Folktales are a way to represent situations analyzing different prospects about gender, through the stories that contribute with the reality of the culture in which they develop while these provide ideas about the behavior and roles of a specific sex building a culture of womanhood, manhood and childhood. This is what the stories of Little Red Riding Hood of Charles Perrault (1697) and Little Red–Cap of the Grimm Brothers (1812) show. This essay will describe some ideas about gender in different ways. In addition, the Grimm's version provides another male character "the huntsman", the savior of the story, a brave and strong man at the time that he goes into the grandmother's house and cuts the wolf's belly in order to rescue the women. In brief, men are portrayed as superior and intelligent in contrast with the weak and ignorant women which argues the patriarchal society of that era. The second point explains how the plot brings ideas about gender, understanding the actions through the dialogues between the different characters. The tale describes the task that Little Red Riding Hood is given by her mother when she is said to go to her grandmother's house by herself in "another village" which refers to a far away place; it shows the ignorance of the mother to send a little girl alone without any warning; although in Grimm's tale the mother gives the child a very detailed warning where it is visible that the girl is less able to think and realize the danger by herself. This action demonstrates the danger for the girl to go alone since she can be persuaded by a stranger and fall in unfortunate consequences, in this case she is eaten by the wolf. Meanwhile, ... • 70. The Worst Recession Of The United States At the end of the 20th century, it was clear that the United States national economy was on a incline. The U.S began winning the worldwide arms race, holding 50% of the world weapons stockpile (Taylor 10). Capitalism, the main trademark of the United States economy, spread like a wildfire across the majority of the world (Taylor 10). To the uneducated ear, news like this sounds great; the United States is slowly taking over the world. However, this insane growth was actually poising the U.S. for an extreme downfall in the coming years of the early 21st century. The major downfall would come to be known as the worst recession in our history since the infamous Great Depression. While there are several speculated causes to the recession of 2007, one cause that stands out is the housing bubble burst. "As the housing bubble burst and trillions of dollars ' worth of toxic mortgages began to go bad in 2007, fear spread through the massive firms that form the heart of Wall Street ("Meltdown")". The first repercussions of the housing bubble bursting were the floating rumors about the investment bank, Bear Stearns. The rumors of the bank 's imminent bankruptcy were so abundant, that they became a self fulfilling prophecy ("Meltdown"). In an attempt to save the bank, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke created a deal with JPMorgan ("Meltdown"). This deal stated that "the federal government would use $30 billion to cover Bear Stearns ' questionable assets tied to toxic mortgages ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Orville and Wilbur Wright and The Airplane Orville and Wilbur Wright were born four years apart Orville was born August 19, 1871 in Dayton, Ohio and Wilbur Wright was born April 16, 1867 in Millville, Indiana. They were two of seven children to a bishop of a church that traveled quite a bit. It was on one of those travels that he brought them a toy helicopter to play with. They have said that this toy began their love of flight and encouraged them to learn more. They disappointingly died in (Wilbur) 1948 and (Orville) 1912, but not before changing the face of aviation. This plane would not have seen the light of day until much later on if it were not for the Wright brothers. Without The Wright brothers' forward thinking aviation technologies, aviation advancements would have drastically slowed and been delayed by many years. They also wouldn't be a major part in American history. Orville and Wilbur Wright are symbolically authoritative in the aviation industry, and people from all over the world wanted to follow in their footsteps and create a plane of their own. The Wright Brothers illustrate that no matter where you come from or what your educational situation is, you can still do something revolutionary and radical. For example, Orville and Wilbur Wright didn't go to college and never received their high school diplomas, but they still had a successful business that didn't require them to stress about the finances. We are told not to go out after a certain hour, always move in groups, and even at times advised to carry a weapon on ourselves. There is only one thing that gives us piece of mind in this new and frightening world we live in: the American penal system. We are taught when growing up to believe that all of the bad people in the world are locked up, far out of sight and that we are out of reach of their dangerous grasp. Furthermore, the murderers and rapists we watch on television, we believe once are caught are to be forgotten and never worried about again. This led to "stagflation" and high unemployment." This "stagflation" let to the discomfort and discontent in the prison system. Prisons felt the effects of this oil shortage as well and led to their want to further voice their opinions. But, as if theses conditions weren't bad enough, we were also going through a political reform as well as dealing with the end of the "Great Society" era. Things were bad both inside and outside prison walls. Prisoners heard about the incredibly horrific conditions outside of their walls and believed that they should be allowed to do, or at least say something about it. Conditions inside the prison were no better. For starters, many of the prisoners were those who had committed menial crimes. Worse so, many were war heroes, back from Vietnam who couldn't find a job and thus had to go about other illegal means to stay alive, and thus were thrown in prison. Attica prison in particular was famous at the time among prisoners for having the most horrific treatment of their inmates. Guards did whatever they could both legally and illegally to keep their prisoners in perpetual fear and discomfort. The prisoners were not just treated like children, but as animals. The one thing prisoners treasure the most is their contact with the outside world. It keeps them sane and allows them to remain in some type of contact both with their families as well as with what is going on outside the prison walls. But, guards did whatever ... The Importance Of Language In My Life When we interact with someone for the first time, read our favorite novel, and even take a trip outside of our hometown our language was impacted at some point. Language is a tool that has shaped my own character and made me the young lady that I am today. Language allows us to negotiate. Without language, society would not be able to function because there is no communication. We cannot learn properly because it hinders our well–being that enables us to evoke feelings and thoughts. Even though language has made an impact in my life through interacting with individuals on an interpersonal level, it has improved my reading and writing abilities because of two major events in my life. The aspect of language has allowed me to adapt to others and develop strong relationships. I had the privilege to attend a mission trip to Esopus, New York in my junior year of high school because of Marist Youth. Marist Youth is a Catholic ministry movement group inspired by Saint Marcellin Champagnat to expand faith and leadership for students. The purpose of this trip was to attend an annual LaValla event that promotes community service, spiritual bonding, and connecting with individuals in the Marist community. • 78. The Wright 's Journey Towards Becoming Famous Aviators "Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him" (James 1:12). Orville and Wilbur Wright's journey towards becoming famous aviators brought about many challenges. They encountered physical injuries, educational setbacks, and numerous failed experiments, yet remained determined to build a perfect aircraft. James 1:12 mentions the importance of keeping faith during times of distress, a principle the Wright Brothers lived by. Despite every dilemma they faced, Orville and Wilbur's perseverance is what made them a legend. Wilbur was the first brother to encounter a curveball (or shall I say, a curve–puck?). After being badly injured in an ice hockey game, he was unable to continue his education or peruse his dreams of going to Yale. His injury brought about many negative implications, but he refused to give up. He remained at home, educating himself by reading from his father's library, until eventually going into business with his brother Orville. Originally, they operated a paper business, but eventually, they followed their passion for mechanics and opened up a Cycle Shop. While they worked to repair broken handlebars and pedals, they became inspired by the research of Otto Lilienthal, a famous aviator. After hearing of his death in a glider crash, Orville and Wilbur became determined to create the first powered aircraft. Attempting to understand the laws of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
