WHAT IS GUIDANCE Republic Act 9258 	Defines guidance and counseling as a profession involving an “integrated approach to the development  of a well-functioning individual primarily by helping him/her to utilize his/potentials to the fullest and plan his/her future in accordance to his/her abilities, interests and needs.”
WHAT IS GUIDANCE Dictionary of Psychology 	Defines guidance as the procedures used to assist individuals to find maximum satisfaction in their educational and vocational careers. Guidance involves the utilization of interviews and tests, and the study of background information, in order to arrive at a systematic plan of educational or vocational pursuits.
WHAT IS GUIDANCE Hatch and Costar (1961) 	Defined guidance program as a system of services designed to improve the adjustment of each and every person for whom it was organized.

  • 20. Basic Principles of the Guidance Program c. Administrative and faculty understanding and support to the Guidance Program are crucial to its success. d. Guidance personnel perform specific tasks distinct and separate from teaching and disciplining.

The Guidance Program addresses the developmental and adjustment needs of the students. b. The Program considers the unique culture and climate of the specific population and environment it serves. c. The program offerings are based on regular, systematic assessment of the students’ needs and environment.
  • 22. Basic Principles of the Guidance Program d. Guidance is a continuous process throughout the person’s stay in school. e. Guidance activities are specifically planned and develop to ensure Program effectiveness. f. The Guidance team consists of the school counselor, psychologists, social workers, teachers, administrators and other professionals and staff who work together for the welfare of the students.

Every individual has needs that must be attended to. b. Guidance should be extended to all. c. Every individual is unique and possesses worth and dignity.
