One of the reasons I chose the University of Exeter Business School is because it has such a good reputation.
It’s also one of only a few universities to offer Economics and Finance together which is what I wanted to study.
Another deciding factor was its location. Exeter is a relatively small city, yet big enough to cater for all your needs.
It’s also nice to be able to get to London easily, at the same time as having stunning scenery right on your
doorstep. Places like Dartmouth and Exmouth are just breathtaking. So you can enjoy a top quality education in a
      really beautiful place.

The South West is a top holiday

can enjoy it all year round. Exeter is just
nine miles from the coastal town of
Exmouth, with its long sandy beaches
and the Exe estuary perfect for sailors,
swimmers, water-skiers, windsurfers and

All in all, being located in such a beautiful

Exeter’s strong reputation, and in particular that of the Business School, stood
me in very good stead when interviewing for an internship with Deloitte last
year. My year of European study (in France) gave me an extra edge over the
competition and I was fortunate enough to both gain a place on last summer’s
internship and go on to secure a graduate job with them.

I have lived in both catered and self-catered halls and have found advantages in
both; in catered you don’t have to worry about cooking and the atmosphere at

eating when you like and form a good group of friends in your flat. All halls are

I’m now in the second year of my course, and I particularly like the way our programme
is structured. e core modules give you a solid foundation into the subject, but we also
get to choose from a wide range of subjects for our additional modules. So I’ve been
able to branch out into different areas and see what kind of business I’d like to go into.
As a result, I’ve studied Finance modules, Language modules and Management
modules, alongside the Economics modules that are compulsory for my course. at’s
helped me understand where I want to be and what I enjoy most, which will influence
my decisions about what to study in my final year.

Because so much of what we study relates to current, topical business life, I’ve
developed a much better understanding of the business world around me. Often we
analyse the business stories hitting the headlines. For example, climate change is a
big story at the moment and we’ve looked at lots of well known companies, such as
Marks & Spencer, Nokia and Tesco, to establish their real position. It’s so interesting
to delve behind the PR and see what companies are truly, actively doing about it.

Often we analyse the business stories hitting the headlines. For example, climate change is a big story at the moment and we’ve looked at lots of well known companies, such as Marks & Spencer, Nokia and Tesco, to establish their real position. It’s so interesting to delve behind the PR and see what companies are truly, actively doing about it. Dilara Pars (BA Business and Management 2010) www.exeter.ac.uk/business-school 39
