- So first a little bit about my noble institution to anchor it to this specific institutional context: the United Nations UniversityCreated by the UN General Assembly in 1973 UNU Headquarters located in Tokyo since 197513 institutes located in different parts of the worldUNU a different Universityfocus on research until now Education and teaching was introduced just on 21 December 2009. The General Assembly endorsed amendments to the UNU Charter, providing the right to grant master’s and doctoral degrees. Funding for academic work comes from host countries: Japan, Germany, Finland, Malaysia, Ghana, Zambia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Macao, Venezuela…) as well as foundations and the private sector;
- UNU is a major think tank for the UN SystemUNU bridges the UN with the international academic communityIn the UNU worlds experts work on solutions to pertinent global problemsFocus lies on developing countries and sustainabilityUNU is a different University!
- UNU-ViE is a Vice Rectorate established in May 2007 in Europe in Bonn, to connect with agencies and institutes of Higher Education, UNU-ViE concentrates on questions related to »Science and Technology to Ensure Human Security«.
- In this context my job is to create a learning hub for innovative knowledge sharing processes, including also dynamic and interactive facilitation to support development of capacities in relation to e-learning, to facilitate policy dialogues betw policy makers, scientists and practitioners, with a particular focus on Africa
