Genocide
 On Sticky-Note, write a definition of what you think
Genocide is.
 Compare with a partner.
 Similarities? Differences?
 In 1948, the UN defined genocide as any of the following
acts committed with the intent to destroy a
national, ethnic, racial or religious group including:
 Killing members of the group
 Causing serious bodily or mental harm
 Imposing measures intended to prevent birth within the group
 Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group
 How does your definition compare?
Holocaust
 What do you already know?
 Who? What? When? Where? Why? How?
 The imprisonment, enslavement, and mass murder of
6,000,000 Jews by Nazi Germany in WWII (1941-1945).
 2/3 of all Jews in Europe were killed.
 Some of the most horrifically inhumane tactics were used
against Jews from Poland, Soviet Union, Germany, Ukraine, etc.
 Why?
 Inexplicable hate
 No good answer for such tragedy
Stations (6-8 minutes each)

 Answer questions on sheets – talk with partners
