7. Volunteering also can provide you with a sense of responsibility because people really depend on you. And it can help you develop a new understanding of people who are different from you — people with disabilities, people in financial distress, sick kids, or the elderly. One is not born into the world to do everything but to do something...    Henry David Thoreau, poet, writer, philosopherÂ
8. Volunteering helps people feel they make a difference — that they do have the power to change things for the better. When people depend on you, it can change the way you look at yourself. You can feel proud of the goals that you've achieved for an organization — whether how small it is. I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again...    Mahatma Gandhi
9. Volunteering is also a great way to get a perspective on your own life. Sometimes it's easy to get consumed by worries about your grades or the fight you had with your friend or parent. And although these things are very important in their own way, sometimes it can be helpful to get some distance and think about other things. Volunteering lets you focus on others and see that your involvement in the world can be meaningful.
10. Volunteering does show others (and yourself!) that you are reliable enough to make a Commitment. Volunteering also shows employers and colleges that you believe in making the world a better place — and that you're willing to sacrifice your time and energy to do it. Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.    Mohammed Ali

18. Values and beliefs Three nurses went to heaven, and were waiting turn to plead their case to St. Peter to enter the pearly gates. The first nurse said, "I worked in an emergency room. We tried our best to help patients, but occasionally we did lose one. I think I deserve to go to heaven." St. Peter looks at her file and admits her to heaven.
19. The second nurse says, "I worked in an operating room. It´s a very high stress environment and we do our best. Sometimes the patients are too sick and we lose them, But overall we try very hard." St. Peter looks at her file and admits her to heaven.
20. The third nurse says, "I was a case manager for an HMO." St. Peter looks at her file. He pulls out a calculator and starts punching away at it furiously, constantly going back to the nurse´s file. After a few minutes St. Peter looks up, smiles, and said, "Congratulations! You´ve been admitted to heaven ... for five days!"
21. Volunteers are not paid not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless.
22. The Volunteers’ Prayer Lord, let this people now be my people let my life be theirs, As I enter into this world open my eyes let me see what I must see. Open my ears, calm my mind and clear all the entrances into me That I may read the story you have written and take into my heart. Let me be vulnerable, let me be sore And tired and scratched and numbed and dirty and afraid. But however broken I may be during this experience, Let me emerge whole to take this World you gave to me, And make it part of the world I build. AMEN.
