CV Tips for ITV Production Jobs
If you want to work for a major broadcaster and production company like ITV, you’ll need a great
‘selling’ CV to help you stand out from the crowd. These tips are designed to help you tailor your CV
to get that-all important TV production job; one that could substantially further your career.

Go with a clean, standard CV layout.

While there’s no perfect way to ensure a perfect alyout, you won’t go far wrong with a standard
approach. At the top of the page put your name and job title, along with your contact mobile
number, email address and link(s) to a show reel if you have one.

What are your primary skills? Which broadcasters have you worked for?

You don’t need a mission statement, so next should be a bullet point list of the broadcasters you
have worked for and your primary skills. Include the cameras, editing systems and other equipment
you are comfortable using. Include any awards won, relevant experience and other useful
information such as languages spoken, or specialist knowledge in sectors like science or the arts.

Experience both near and far afield is a plus.

If you have foreign filming or production experience include it here, along with any current travel
visas you possess. Round this section off with any general skills you possess, such as knowledge of
particular software packages and whether you have a driving licence.

Programme credits

Set out your programme credits in reverse chronological order. Alongside each should be a brief
description of the show and exactly what you did on it. This is your opportunity to demonstrate what
impact you had on the production of a programme. If you have any press reviews, or testimonials
from an executive involved, include them here.

Industry-specific qualifications

Towards the end of your CV, describe your training and educational qualifications, including any
industry-specific courses, such as technical, legal, or any to do with health and safety. Follow up with
your GCSEs, A-levels and degrees, particularly if you are a TV production graduate.

Referees

Finally, list at least two referees. These should be from your most recent credits. Check that these
nominees are willing to give you references, and have a good idea in advance of what they’re likely
say about you - you don’t want any unexpected surprises.

Be honest when you fill out an application form.

Many companies will ask you to complete online application forms. Answer the questions honestly
and always make sure you are applying for jobs that you have the experience and skills for. Save
your time and that of the company you wish to work for.
