Dillon M134D Gatling Gun
The Dillon Aero M134D is an electrically powered, six barreled, Gatling gun capable of fixed firing rates of either 3,000 or 4,000 shots per minute. It can be powered by AC or DC power sources. The weapon is chambered in 7.62 MM NATO with magazines available in 1500, 3000 or 4400 round capacities. The M134D is a modular system, allowing easy adaptation to any existing platform. This flexibility allows it to perform equally well in the fixed-forward fire or crew served mode. It is simple to load and easy to maintain. With an average of 30,000 rounds between stoppages, the Dillon M134D is one of the most reliable weapons in the world.
The standard Dillon Gatling gun fires 3,000 shots per minute. That equals 50 shots per second. No other 7.62 MM weapon comes close to this rate of fire. Why is shooting fast important? Because only fast guns such as the M134D can achieve the extreme shot density needed to suppress multiple targets in compressed periods of time.
More importantly, fast guns are more accurate than slower firing weapons. There are two reasons for this and both are a result of the high cyclic rate. First, Gatling guns experience virtually no recoil. The M134D fires 50 shots per second, meaning there is 1/50th of a second between each shot. Because the time between shots is so short the M134D, on a properly engineered mount, simply moves aft with the first shot with no tendency to pitch up or yaw. This makes the weapon far more stable and easier to aim. Secondly, in the time it takes to fire one round from an M-240, four rounds are fired from the Gatling gun— this makes for very dense shot grouping. This also means that with four times the number of impacts in the target area, there is a four-fold reduction in the amount of time it takes for a gunner to see his hits and adjust his aim.
Additionally, fast guns are more accurate when it comes to reduced error correction. When a gunner fires on a target, he must see the impacts to know exactly where the gun is aiming. As the amount of time between each impact increases, the amount of error caused by target movement or gun movement also increases. The amount of error can grow quite large due to helicopter movement, gun movement, and target movement. As the range to the target increase to 100 meters or more, the problem becomes severe. However, by increasing the number shots per second, the amount of time between each observed impact is greatly reduced.
But just how much more accurate is the M134D? Four times the number of shots should equal four times the number of hits, right? Wrong. Surprisingly, the M134D is, on average, nine times more likely to score hits. This is true because of the combined effects of high rate of fire, extremely dense shot grouping, and high weapon stability.
Since Gatling guns are more effective and more reliable than conventional “gas operated” guns, fewer weapons are required to cover a target area. Fewer guns mean fewer bodies to man them and fewer platforms to support them. This translates into big cost savings.
The Dillon M134D is a true force multiplier.
On land the M134D is currently deployed worldwide for convoy escort, border patrol, and VIP protection. In the naval role Gatling guns are employed in the force protection role on board the US and Royal Navy blue water fleet, and as fire support weapons on Special Operations boats. However, it is in the helicopter that the M134D is most often found. It is used throughout the world, on board the Bell UH-1, Bell-212, Bell-412, AH-6, H-60, H-47, and H-53.
The M134D, or component systems, are currently employed by the US Army, US Navy, US Marine Corps, US Air Force, the United Kingdom, Bahrain, Jordan, and Colombia.

DAFD2000-1 Feeder/Delinker
P/N: DAFD2000-1
NSN: 1005-01-490-9689
The DAFD2000-1 Feeder/Delinker is the single most important upgrade to any GAU-2B/M134. Its function is to delink ammunition, then feed it to the gun. On General Electric Miniguns this job was performed by the MAU-56. While similar in appearance to the Dillon Feeder/Delinker, the MAU-56 suffers from several shortcomings, making the system susceptible to failure. In fact, failures encountered during the normal operation of the MAU-56 often lead to a complete overhaul.
In contrast, the Dillon DAFD2000-1 Feeder/ Delinker is extremely reliable. The unit has a ‘mean-time-between-failure’ of 500,000 rounds. Delinker stoppages are also rare. This is due in part to the high strength of internal construction and the way in which the Dillon Feeder/Delinker retains lubricant while channeling dirt and debris, which can cause a stoppage.
In the unlikely event of a stoppage, the Dillon Feeder/Delinker is equipped with unique twin hatches. These hatches simplify stoppage clearance, a process that takes less than a minute.
Because the MAU-56 has no hatches allowing internal access, stoppages often require between 10-20 minutes to clear, and can leave the unit unserviceable.

DAC3000 Clutch Assembly
P/N: DAC3000
NSN: 1005-01-493-7249
Dillon’s DAC3000 Clutch Assembly is integral to the operation of the Dillon Feeder/Delinker. Its function is to control the engagement/disengagement of the Delinker in time with the gun.
The DAC3000 also ensures the weapon is clear of live ammunition each time the trigger is released. When the gun trigger is pressed, power is delivered to the gun and to the clutch. The clutch then engages the delinker drive gear, causing the delinker to feed ammunition to the gun. When the trigger is released, power is first removed from the clutch, which disengages the delinker, stopping the flow of ammunition. A time delay relay continues to turn the gun barrels until the six remaining rounds are fired. In this way the M134D is always free of live ammunition. Also, since there is no live ammunition in the chambers after firing, the M134D is not susceptible to accidental discharges resulting from ‘’cook-offs’’.

Earlier generation gun control units or fire control units came in a variety of shapes and sizes, though they typically shared certain characteristics. These systems tended to be large, heavy, and overly complex. Some GCUs, consisting of multiple ‘black boxes’, could weigh more than 20 pounds. Designed with sensitive electronics, they could easily burn-up, leaving a gun unable to fire.
Complexity was another serious shortcoming. In the event of a failure, it was unlikely that the unit could be returned to service with a trip to depot level maintenance. Typically, unit replacement cost was always high, and the sensitive nature of these early systems meant a large number of spares were necessary.
Dillon Aero’s Gun Control Unit is a simple, yet highly robust system. The GCU controls all of the weapon’s functions. When either of the twin triggers are depressed the GCU performs a number of functions:
1. Power is delivered to the Gun Drive Motor.
2. Power is delivered to the Clutch, which in turn engages the Feeder/Delinker system.
3. Power is delivered to the ammunition Booster Motor.
4. The ‘Time Delay Circuit’ is energized.
The Time Delay Circuit
When the GCU trigger is released, power is removed from the weapon. The DAC3000 Clutch disengages and the flow of ammunition to the gun is interrupted. After the Clutch disengages the Time Delay Circuit continues to supply power to the gun motor long enough to ensure that all remaining live rounds have been fired. There are no live rounds left in the gun.
Dillon Spade Grips are specifically designed for the Dillon GCU. The Spade Grips bolt directly to the gun housing providing a stable gun interface.
Dillon’s Cable Harness is simple, strong, and damage resistant. Three connectors carry power from the 24 Volt power source and distribute it to the Booster Assembly and the Gun Control Unit.
• Currently in Service with US and foreign military.
• Dual Firing Triggers provide redundancy.
• Guarded Master Power Switch.
• Night Vision Compatible.
• Optional Integrated ‘Intercom System’ switch available.
Dillon’s GCU is an integral part of the gun, housed in the Spade Grips.

DA1000 Bolt Assembly
Included in the SLE kit are six Dillon DA1000 Gun Bolts. Together with six Dillon improved bolt tracks, the DA1000s form a complete Gun Bolt set.
It is necessary to replace the General Electric bolts for a couple of reasons. Firing pins found in GE bolts have blunt tips. Blunt tips can puncture the primer of a cartridge during the firing sequence. When this happens a portion of the hot gas is vented passed the firing pin and through the bolt. This has two effects. The first is to cause the firing pin to compress the firing pin spring rearward against the firing pin retention pin. If this happens enough times the firing pin spring will lose temper, which leads to light firing pin strikes on primers. These ‘light strikes’ may contain insufficient energy to fire the cartridge.
The second effect of gas venting is to ‘etch’ the tip of the firing pin. The more the firing pin tip is damaged the more likely it is to puncture larger holes in the primer. At a certain point enough gas is vented into the bolt body that the bolt head retention pin may actually be sheared into three pieces, leading to catastrophic bolt failure.
To solve these and other problems, Dillon patented an entirely redesigned gun bolt for use in the Dillon M134D. This bolt, the DA1000, is completely compatible with the General Electric GAU-2B/M134.
Dillon Aero’s Bolts are amazingly strong and reliable. The firing pin tip is rounded, not blunt, to avoid primer puncture. In firing tests totaling well over one million rounds, Dillon Bolts did not puncture a single primer. Because of this, Dillon springs last fifteen times as long as GE springs.
Other improvements include dual, opposed guidance tangs that drive the bolt head into and out of the locked position. This is compared to the single tang GE bolt head which was susceptible to cracking.
Also, bolt searing is simpler and more reliable. GE bolts have a boss on the rear end of the firing pin that engages a track in the gun rotor. With Dillon Bolts the sear is contained within the Bolt Head and is triggered by Bolt compression. This feature makes rotor design less complex and less expensive.
Bolts are sold as complete units and have no need for individual maintenance beyond normal cleaning and inspection. In fact, a single set of Dillon Bolts has been fired to 375,000 rounds without replacing any parts, including springs.
• Currently in Service with US and foreign military.
• Service life of 200,000 rounds.
• Dillon bolts require no maintenance aside from normal lubrication and inspection.
• Dillon Firing Pins are internally seared so there is no interface between the firing pin and rotor.
• Dillon Bolts are designed to prevent “off- center” firing pin strikes.
• Dillon Firing Pins have spherical ends which eliminate punctured primers.
• Dillon springs are engineered to last beyond 200,000 rounds.

Top Cover/Safing Sector Assemblies
Dillon Aero’s innovations on the M134D Top Cover and Safing Sector greatly increased the gun’s safety of operation. With the old system, it was necessary for the user to remove five parts off the gun in order to ensure that all chambers were clear of ammunition and safe the gun. Not only was this time consuming, but these parts were subject to loss as well. With the Dillon Aero system, the user has only to release two spring loaded latches and pivot the Top Cover/Safing Sector to the safe position. This takes three seconds, produces no loose parts, and no tools are required.
• Currently in service with US and foreign military.
• Dillon designed Top Cover/Safing Sector provides rapid and certain method of safing the gun.
• Dillon designed Pinch Pins and Slide Locks eliminate loose quick release pins.
• Speed and ease of the safing operation encourages the user to return
the weapon to a safe condition for reloading or when not in a combat area.

Ammunition Magazines for Air, Land, and Sea
Dillon offers a wide range of high capacity magazines for the M134 Gatling Gun, ranging in size from 1,500 rounds to 4,400 rounds capacity. Additionally, Dillon offers a new 500 round magazine for the M60 and M240/MAG, as well as a 750 round magazine for the M249.
Large capacity magazines have been a traditional source of weapon malfunctions. Dillon Aero has invested considerable resources into solving this problem. The result is Dillon’s line of jam free ammunition magazines. They are surprisingly simple in design, easy to load, and highly resistant to jamming. Each magazine is divided into two compartments creating twin ammunition bays. Each bay is divided with a single half-height baffle or, one half-height baffle and two smaller sub baffles. These baffles serve to control the ammunition, preventing the tucking and cartridge interlocking that is the cause of most magazine jams.
Not only does this simple design radically reduce magazine induced gun jams, it also makes magazine loading very fast and easy. Loading is accomplished by laying a continuous belt of ammunition from end to end, across the baffle. When the first bay is full, the belt is fed into the crossover section of the magazine and then into the second bay. In this way a standard 4,400 round magazine can be readied for action in less than four minutes.
Dillon ammunition magazines are currently in service with the US Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marine Corps, and are deployed in the air, on land, and at sea. Additionally, Dillon magazines have been adopted by numerous foreign services.
• Dillon’s unique design radically reduces the likely hood of magazine induced jams and stoppages.
• Simple internal structure facilitates quick loading process.

Round Repositioner
All ammunition must travel to the battlefield. That travel is hard on linked ammunition. Vibration caused by the continuous shaking of rough roads or mishandling can cause belted rounds to shift in the links. These are referred to as mislinked rounds and they are a common source of weapon malfunction.
When a round shifts, becoming mislinked, it moves out of alignment (either for or aft) in relation to the other rounds in the belt. Consequently, that belt becomes too wide to enter either a feed chute, if one is being used, or the feed port on the weapon itself. The result is a feed stoppage, the cause of which usually going undetermined.
Like all belt-fed weapons, the M134’s feed system is sensitive to mislinked ammunition. To combat mislinked rounds, a Round Repositioner is installed at the magazine’s exit. The inside of the Round Repositioner is shaped like a funnel allowing it to reposition any round not properly linked prior to entering the feed chute.

DVRM-1 and DVRM-2
Dillon’s line of Vehicle Ring Mounts provide a ‘drop-in’ armored gun mount for any vehicle. Dillon mounts accept a wide range of weapons, including the M134D Gatling Gun. All Dillon Ring Mounts use composite armor to provide light weight, Level 4 protection.
DVRM-1 Ring Mount
The DVRM-1 support assembly is designed for the HMMWV class of military vehicles. Additionally, DVRM-1 is easily adapted to operate with any open bed type of vehicle.
The DVRM-1 may be installed in conjunction with third-party vehicle armor systems or as a stand alone turret with ‘floor to ceiling’ armor. Built on a heavy duty, sealed bearing ring, the DVRM-1 allows 360° of travel and easily supports the heaviest loads. The DVRM-1 installs in one hour and does not require vehicle modification.
DVRM-2 and DVRM-3 Armored Weapons Assembly
Dillon Aero now offers an Armored Weapons Assembly for HMMWVs equipped with a factory installed ring mounts. The DVRM-2 and DVRM-3 bolt directly to the factory bearing ring. This allows for rapid installation that may be completed in the field. Like all Dillon Ring Mounts, the DVRM-2/3 series are light weight, and easy to operate.

Dillon makes three External Beam Mounts for the UH-1 series utility helicopters. These simple, light weight “plug and play” designs allow for a variety of installation options depending on aircraft configuration. These mounts pick up factory installed hard points on the belly of the aircraft. They consist of two main support arms, cross beam, and between one and three vertical post positions. Installation can be accomplished in a matter of minutes. The post pintle is a standard 2.25-inch and accepts the Dillon Vertical Arm.
Dillon UH-1 mounts are in service now and have had millions of rounds expended on them.

The Dillon Black Hawk mount is a Form and Function copy of the General Dynamics window mount with two significant differences. The first is weight. The Dillon mount is made of Titanium and weighs 22.9 Pounds. This is nearly one half of the GD mount which weighs 41.8 pounds.
The second difference is the use of the Dillon Vertical Arm in place of the GD vertical arm. When General Dynamics designed its vertical arm, M134s did not use flash suppressors. When flash suppressors were adopted the accuracy of the GD mount was compromised. The reason for this is that the inside wall of the flash suppressor nearest the firing barrel is acted upon by the gas exiting the muzzle. This action tends to drive the barrel off target. The Dillon Vertical Arm was designed with flash suppressors in mind. The result is a much more accurate weapon installation that does not fight the operator.
The Dillon M134D Black Hawk window mount attaches to either the left or right window station behind the cockpit. The mount will except either an M134 or an M240 and will allow either weapon to be stowed internally or extended for combat.

The Dillon Chinook mount is a recreation of the General Dynamics mount with the only change being a reduction of 5 pounds from the total weight. The mount is a bi-fold design which occupies either the right side window or the left side doorway. Its design allows for quick removal and stowing in the event the window or door is needed for egress or ingress. The post pintle is a standard 2.25-inch and accepts the Dillon Vertical Arm.
The Dillon Chinook Weapon Mount is now in service with the US Army.

M-240 Mount
Dillon’s line of gun mounts is not limited to the M134. A lightweight, universal gun mount is also available for the M-240. The Universal gun mount shares the excellent handling characteristic of the M134 mount, and it is designed to be completely compatible with the M134 Vertical Arm.
This means that any platform equipped for the M134 system, can, in a matter of seconds, be equipped for the M-240.
The Dillon M-240 mount can be fed from either the standard 200 round ammunition can, or Dillon’s DAB500 ammunition magazine. The DAB500 holds 500 rounds of 7.62 millimeter ammunition. The 500 round capacity greatly reduces the gunners need to change magazines, thus reducing dropped magazines, gun down-time, and aircraft exposure.
Dillon M-240 mounts and high capacity magazines are currently used by the US Army in both ground and aviation applications.

For naval applications, the installation utilizes the MK16 Naval Post Mount. The post mount is simple, sturdy, and requires only 2’ by 2’ of deck or truck bed space, which means it can be installed just about anywhere.
The pintle of the Naval Post Mount is a standard 2.25-inch diameter pintle making this mount entirely compatible with the Dillon Vertical Arm.
The Naval Post Mount M134 is currently in service in the Force Protection role on board US Naval vessels and vessels of allied nations.
In the small boat arena, M134s are used by special operations forces aboard fast attack craft and RHIBS in the fire support role.

YOKE
The Yoke is a “Y” shaped casting that bolts directly to the Gatling Gun’s Housing. The Yoke axle plugs into the Vertical Arm and provides the gun with its pitch axis.
Built in mounting surfaces allow for the use of any type of gun sight or IR laser.
Our universal yoke is compatible with all Dillon Aero mounts. Gun traverse stops are user specific.

VERTICAL ARM
The Vertical Arm is a short vertical post which provides the M134 with its horizontal axis of rotation. It is fully compatible with the entire line of Dillon mounts. As with Dillon’s helicopter gun mounts, the Vertical Arm for helicopter operators is designed to meet the US Air Force’s strict 20/20/10 “g” loading criteria and is available in steel or titanium.
At the top of the Vertical Arm is the Yoke socket. The yoke is secured in the socket by means of a quick release pin. This allows the gun to be mounted to the Vertical Arm in seconds. The Yoke socket is lined with an oil- light bushing. The use of oil-light bushings helps to prevent galling, common in other mounts, and ensures long part life and easy repairability.
Another advantage of using the Dillon Vertical Arm is that it is fully compatible with the Dillon M-240 gun cradle, allowing operators to switch seamlessly between the M134 and the M-240, depending on mission requirements.

  • 4. Steel, P/N: M134D NSN: 1005-00-903-0751 Titanium, P/N: M134D-T NSN: pending Dillon M134D Gatling Gun The Dillon Aero M134D is an electrically powered, six barreled, Gatling gun capable of fixed firing rates of either 3,000 or 4,000 shots per minute. • 8. DAFD2000-1 Feeder/Delinker P/N: DAFD2000-1 NSN: 1005-01-490-9689 The DAFD2000-1 Feeder/Delinker is the single most important upgrade to any GAU-2B/M134. Dillon Aero, Inc. • 10. DAC3000 Clutch Assembly P/N: DAC3000 NSN: 1005-01-493-7249 Dillon’s DAC3000 Clutch Assembly is integral to the operation of the Dillon Feeder/Delinker. Dillon Aero, Inc. • 12. Gun Control Unit and Spade Grips Gun Control Unit Standard, P/N: DMG0100A NSN: 1005-01-494-8770 W/ Pilot A uthorize, P/N: DMG0175 Spade Grips P/N: DMG0200A NSN: 1090-01-495-3304 Univ ersal, P/N: DMG250 Pictured, Right 1 Piece Cast, P/N: DMG0265 Pictured, Abo ve NSNs pending for those not listed Earlier generation gun control units or fire control units came in a variety of shapes and sizes, though they typically shared certain characteristics. When either of the twin triggers are depressed the GCU performs a number of functions: 1. Power is delivered to the Gun Drive Motor. 2. Power is delivered to the Clutch, which in turn engages the Feeder/Delinker system. 3. Power is delivered to the ammunition Booster Motor. 4. The ‘Time Delay Circuit’ is energized. The Time Delay Circuit When the GCU trigger is released, power is removed from the weapon. Dillon Aero, Inc. (800) 881-4231 • (480) 444-2919 • FAX (480) 948-6616 • www.dillonaero.com

  • 14. DA1000 Bolt Assembly Included in the SLE kit are six Dillon DA1000 Gun Bolts. • 16. Top Cover/Safing Sector Assemblies Dillon Aero’s innovations on the M134D Top Cover and Safing Sector greatly increased the gun’s safety of operation. • Speed and ease of the safing operation encourages the user to return the weapon to a safe condition for reloading or when not in a combat area. shown assembled Top Cover (above left) P/N: DMG0038 NSN: 1005-01-495-4463 Safing Sector (above right) P/N: DMG00039 NSN: 1005-01-499-7957 Dillon Aero, Inc. • 22. Ammunition Magazines for Air, Land, and Sea Dillon offers a wide range of high capacity magazines for the M134 Gatling Gun, ranging in size from 1,500 rounds to 4,400 rounds capacity. • 26. Round Repositioner All ammunition must travel to the battlefield. • 32.
