Millions of bloggers, business owners, and corporations have WordPress websites, and by default the only
way for users to signup for update notification is via email. The WordPress Text Message Plugin changes
all of that.
The plugin provides a widget for users to signup for updates. The form allows them to enter their cell
phone number and a (US based) carrier. From that point forward the website owner can send out websites
updates to them via SMS text message directly to their phone or mobile device.
WordPress Text Message allows updates manually, when new posts are published, or for specific page
updates (all plugin options). The website owner can also configure how many updates are sent out at once
(in batches). The plugin has simple widget drag and drop front end installation, but also allows the signup
form to be placed on any post or page via shortcode. This new version of the plugin also now uses standard
WordPress nonce security, and the code has been streamlined for easier maintenance in the future.
There are hundreds of uses for this free plugin, but websites wanting to connect with users on a more
personal level will find it most useful. Clubs, organizations, non-profits, small service based businesses,
membership websites, schools, etc. - should all take advantage of SMS update notifications. Using email to
SMS gateway technology sending the text messages out is completely free for the website owner (text
messaging rates do apply for the receiver).
