4. FIND ERROR: I shall / ring him / tommorow / in the afternoon. Instead of ring him, use ring him up. It is just a better use of preposition.

5. Modern educational techniques / are far superior / than that / employed in the past / With words like superior / inferior / junior we have to use preposition TO and not than. However, with other words of comparison you can use than.

6. No sooner the news appeared in the paper/ than / there was a rush / in the counter/ In the first part use : no sooner did the news appear in the paper ....

7. The play / began / when we arrived / in the hall. Instead of began, use any of the following : had begun (as per past perfect tense, when there are two events, put had with the event which starts earler. )

8. The clothes / were neatly / hanged /on the cloth line. Instead of hanged, use Hung. Hanged is used for killing a person by hanging him.

9. I enjoyed / during my / stay in / England. With enjoy, use myself – as enjoy is a transitive verb and it requires an object. There is no object with enjoy here, thus it is grammatically incorrect.

10. The major / along with / his friends / were killed in the field/. The subject of this sentence is Major, which is singular. Thus we have to use WAS Instead of WERE.

11. Ram' s salary is much larger than Shyam. Here comparison has been made between Ram's salary and shyam (how can you compare a salary and a person). So instead of Shyam, use : Shyam's salary or just use Shyam's

12. Give me three thousands rupees, please. Here there is no need to put S with thousand

13. More than one person have found it correct. Instead of Have, use HAS as the subject is one person - which is singular.

14. A large number of houses are coming in our town Instead of coming, use coming up.

15. In summer, days are warm than nights. Instead of warm, use warmer. Here we are comparing the temperatures of two times, so we have to use comparitive word.

16. The English defeated french in the battle of Waterloo. Use article The before French. Use capital word F in french.

17. Only three- fourths of the work are complete and we are left with no time. Use is instead of are. The subject is work, not forths

18. The three last chapters of this book are very interesting. Use the last three chapters instead of the three last chapters.

19. More than two boys was present in the class. More than two boys were present in the class.

20. They appointed him as a manager as he is efficient. There is no need of as before manager.

21. I lived in a three- hundred – years old house in Bombay. Instead of years, use year.

22. The principal offered me tea but I denied it. Instead of denied, use declined.

23. Mr.Bothra is planning to settle in Delhi as soon as he will retire in April next year. Dont use will for this type of sentences (which shows conditions as future events – dont use will / shall) use as he retires in April next year.

24. One should always take care of his health . Instead of his, we should use ONE'S

25. I was born on the March 31st 1984 in Bihar. Instead of the March 31st, use 31 st March

26. The reason of his failure is due to his intelligence. Remove due to OR remove the reason of (dont use due to with the reason of – as both convey same meanings).

27. The prices of this article considerably varies in different parts of the country. Instead of prices, use price. Instead of considerably varies, use varies considerably. Considerably is an adverb and should be used after the verb for which it is being used.

28. Jyoti is smarter than anybody in her class. Use else after anybody or convert it to superlative sentence. Jyoti is the smartest person in her class.

29. He is the strongest and very tall boy in the whole college. Instead of very tall, use the tallest. In this type of sentence, if you use superlative, both the adjectives should be superlative. Or instead of the strongest, use strong.

30. Even though he was over ninety he stll enjoyed reading novels and sometimes spend an evening at the cinema. The sentence is in the past tense, so dont use spend. Instead of spend, use : would spend or spent

31. Up to the time the last vote was recorded, it was difficult to decide whether victory lay with the ruling party or the opposition Instead of lay, use lied remember the formats of lie and lay Lay : lay, laid laid lie : lie lay lain lay = to put lie = to rest here we will use lie as an infinitive not as verb

32. We should always side with those who is true and unselfish and work for others We should always side with those who are true and unselfish and work for others

33. Before giving the mixture to the child shake it thouroughly. Here it has been used for mixture, but it is coming just after child, thus it seems that child has to be shaked. So correct it : Before giving to the child the mixture, shake it thouroughly.

34. The short story should not exceed more than two hundred words. Dont use more than exceeds itself means more than, so there is no need of more than or instead of exceed use be of

35. He looks at everything from their best side. Instead of their, use its everything is singular so use its instead of their.

36. Page after Page of Gita were read and it gave great consolation to his mind. Instead of were, use was. Page is singular so use was instead of were.

37. His manners indicate that he has no other intention than to steal his money. Instead of than, use but

38. I will now deal with him in a manner different from the one I have adopted so far. Instead of I have adopted so far, use : I have been adopting so far (to show continuation).
