Dear Judges:
My name is Britney Boltz. I am eighteen years old and I plan on training horses all my life. I
originally wanted to become a veterinarian, but recently I have learned that even though I love
animals and would be helping save their lives I couldn’t perform surgery on them. I used to fight
in full knock out Olympic Tae Kwon Do, I was sponsored by Nike, and was going on to the
Olympic trials to fight in the 2012 Olympics’ until I got severely injured three years ago. After
my injures I took a deeper interest into horses, although I have had them my whole life, and I
have realized that I enjoy the one on one connection with a horse and rider. My mom used to
bake all my birthday cakes until I was sixteen, and I always went to her classes where she
learned new techniques, and I enjoyed laughing while she struggled to learn how. Which lead me
to choose how to design a wedding cake.
My product is a four layered wedding cake made of eight cakes, butter crème frosting, a fondant
covering, and a cascade of flowers down the front of the cake. I was able to construct this cake
with the help of my Wilton class at Michael’s arts and crafts, my Wilton supplies, and my project
facilitator. I had trouble with making the flowers for this cake because the fondant would not
stick, it would not form properly, or it would break. Then I had trouble learning how to place the
cakes to make the proper layered appearance.
My choice of project showed me what it takes to become a pastry chef. I learned that cake
decorating takes a lot of patience and time. I lack in patience therefor, I would end up working
on the cake for twenty minutes then find myself watching television on the couch. I found out
that I would not pursue to become a pastry chef but I would enjoy making cakes for friend’s
birthdays.
In the end I found the project to be very stressful, and an unnecessary assignment to have while
dealing with graduating. It’s just and extra assignment that could possibly cause me to fail my
senior year and I did not need that extra stress. Therefore, I would vote to get rid of senior
project for good.At this time I thank you for taking your time.
Sincerely,
Britney Boltz
