Goals for the Program
  Enhance depth and breadth of faculty expertise to support
            teaching and learning in medicine.




Foster the development of a cadre of academic leaders who can
model best practices in teaching within undergraduate, clinical,
                   and graduate programs.




 Promote leadership in the scholarship of teaching and learning
(SoTL) through contributions in the medical education literature.
How it Works
One or more courses
(2 credit hours each)

Provides knowledge and skills in

Who’s eligible to participate in TiME?
Full-time faculty in the School of Medicine

SOM Faculty eligible for tuition waiver benefits/ tuition assistance
from the University

  • Up to two courses per semester (full-time only)
  • If employee withdraws after the deadline / fails to complete the course /
    leaves the University / earns an unsatisfactory grade, tuition waiver is
    revoked and employee becomes responsible for tuition
  • Tuition benefits do not extend to affiliate faculty or others not eligible for
    tuition waiver or tuition assistance.
To Apply to the TiME Program
           Faculty member submits 1-page letter of interest




            Obtains letter of support from department chair



Completes University Tuition Waiver form and In-State tuition form (if
                              needed)



After 6 credit hours, will need to apply to the SOE Certificate in Medical
                            Education program
Deadlines / Start Dates

   Submit registration
   materials no later
   than December 20

  Classes begin
  • Instructional Strategies – January 22
  • Curriculum Design – February 11

  • 1. Teaching in Medical Education (TiME) Faculty Fellows Program Developing faculty as medical educators and scholars in teaching and learning Teresa (Terry) Carter, EdD tjcarter@vcu.edu
  • 2. Goals for the Program Enhance depth and breadth of faculty expertise to support teaching and learning in medicine. Foster the development of a cadre of academic leaders who can model best practices in teaching within undergraduate, clinical, and graduate programs. Promote leadership in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) through contributions in the medical education literature.
  • 3. How it Works One or more courses (2 credit hours each) or 12 credit hours to earn a Certificate in Medical Education from the School of Education at VCU
  • 4. Courses in the TiME Program Required to earn Electives (Choose the Certificate two) Instructional Performance Feedback Strategies and Simulation Group and Team Curriculum Design Facilitation Digital Media Adult Learning Technologies for Theory and Practice Teaching in Medicine Teaching as Scholarship in Reflective Practice Medical Education

Course Descriptions Instructional Strategies Curriculum Design Introduces principles and practices for designing a course Provides knowledge and skills in or unit of instruction, including strategies for teaching large and a rotation experience.   • 9. Who’s eligible to participate in TiME? Full-time faculty in the School of Medicine SOM Faculty eligible for tuition waiver benefits/ tuition assistance from the University • Up to two courses per semester (full-time only) • If employee withdraws after the deadline / fails to complete the course / leaves the University / earns an unsatisfactory grade, tuition waiver is revoked and employee becomes responsible for tuition • Tuition benefits do not extend to affiliate faculty or others not eligible for tuition waiver or tuition assistance.
  • 10. To Apply to the TiME Program Faculty member submits 1-page letter of interest Obtains letter of support from department chair Completes University Tuition Waiver form and In-State tuition form (if needed) After 6 credit hours, will need to apply to the SOE Certificate in Medical Education program
  • 11. Deadlines / Start Dates Submit registration materials no later than December 20 Classes begin • Instructional Strategies – January 22 • Curriculum Design – February 11
