1. Wittfitt for Joanne Tinder’s Classroom
Overview of Proposed Program: My project
involves students sitting on stability balls in the
classroom, as an alternative to the chair. My goal is to
enhance the learning environment by providing seating
that allows for “active” sitting which improves attention
& concentration, posture, blood flow, flexibility,
coordination and balance. The Wittfitt Company has
lifetime support and training designed to meet teacher and
student needs.
Purpose/Need for Project: The purpose of using
balls as seats in the classroom is to help the children focus
better on instruction. Not only should it help them become
more physically fit because core muscles are
strengthened, it allows "active sitting" with little to no
disturbance in the classroom as it provides a child's need
for movement (provided by the need to balance on the
ball). Brain research has shown that there is a link
between movement and academic performance. Sitting on
balls, because it makes one sit up straighter, increases
blood flow to the brain and all parts of the
body. Combining movement and increasing blood flow
should result in increased classroom learning. The use of
ball seating has also been a motivational factor for
children, as well as being fun to use.
