Goal The team goal is to redesign the Hopkins parking structure Promote an economical and efficient solution to control for Flow of traffic Minimize parking space looking time Minimize wait time in finding a parking space Ultimately, to inform the driver of the current “status” in regards to available spaces in the parking garage
3. Questions What strategies do people use to find a parking spot? How can we optimally combine technology and the current strategies that people use in their search for parking?
4. Problems in finding parking Waste $$, time, gas and mileage Causes students/staff to be late for class/work. Causes traffic in the lots Causes road rage (true story) Causes excess pollution
5. THE Point The current structure of the parking system is both inefficient and fails to meet the needs of the representative users at UCSD.

Our plan in remedying the problem Use guidelines we have collaboratively decided upon to determine which individuals are the best interview candidates for this project Aim is to collect 10 – 15 interviews Execute contextual inquiry and interview drivers who park at Hopkins (Undergraduates, Graduates, Faculty, and Staff) Use data collected to create an affinity board highlighting the needs of the users (and brainstorming possible solutions)
7. issues we still need to address Gathering the actual data to formulate a concrete plan to implement a possible solution Surveys (to select best interviewee), Interviews (to pinpoint needs of users), Online resources & Parking Database (to gain additional information) As a group we still need to assign responsibilities to each member Put together our affinity diagram

Looked at UCSD Parking database http://parking.ucsd.edu/survey/surv.html Identified what are the ideal requirements that constitutes an ideal potential interviewee
9. This is a hypothetical solution that we have created to begin the process of reforming the parking system at UCSD – specifically for the centrally-located Hopkins Parking Structure. This solution is subject to change and adjustment, depending upon our evaluation and assessment of its adequacy in maximizing parking efficiency.
