Lisa M. Wilson<br />EDUC 533, Lesson Makeover<br />Lesson Original Plans<br />Pioneer Day is a unit that we complete in 4th grade.  It has evolved over the past three years, changing each year.  I have incorporated technology into the version we used this past school year. Originally we would pass out several different information papers, have the students research, and then put on a Pioneer Day character exhibit.<br />I have chosen to create a PowerPoint presentation to help guide the step by step process of this unit.  I plan on using this to give my students the main points of each section. This presentation would not be used in one day, I will be spreading it out over the course of our unit. <br />I have also never used a graphic organizer with this project.  I plan on adding it into the rubric for next year.  I liked the idea of having my students connect on a more personal basis with how they are similar to their pioneers.  I felt like including it in the PowerPoint would help guide their thinking by doing one activity together.<br />I have copied a variety of handouts that I would generally pass out over the course of this unit.  For timesaving purposes, I have included them all in this file.4th Grade Pioneer Project<br />We will be beginning our pioneer project during the last week of February.  Our class is celebrating the pioneers who settled in our great state.  Each student was assigned characters from a pioneer village.  They will be researching their lives and write reports from the pioneer’s point of view.  We will share our reports and share a meal that might have been typical of the time.<br />On Pioneer Day we will be having our own wax museum. Each student is encouraged to come with props, costumes, drawings, diagrams, etc….to add interest to your character.<br />Although we are not beginning to work on our project for a few weeks, we wanted to give you an idea of what will be taking place.
