5. DANNY IS A SELF-MADE SUCCESSFUL BUSINESSMAN Danny was born in Cuba but emigrated to the United States when he was very young. He was raised in Miami. After high school he became a mechanic and he specialized in Porsches. Having visited the Keys over the years, he decided to move to the Keys to have a better environment to raise his daughter. He started an automobile repair business in Big Pine Key. As a result of countless months of hard work and with the support of the community, the business flourished.

6. In ------ Danny as a was able to sell the busine the business to t take a take advantage o of an opportunity to purchase the NAPA Auto NAPA Auto Parts Store in Big Pine Key.

8. Danny felt a strong desire to give back to the community that had supported his businesses so he became a volunteer fireman working with the Big Pine Key Fire Department. INSERT PHOTO HERE

9. His work with the Fire Department led him to become an EMT and later a certified paramedic. PHOTOGRAPH HERE

11. Recognizing a need for a service to transport Keys medical patients to the mainland by vehicle, Danny approached the county with his idea. The county encouraged him; Danny obtained the necessary certificate of need and six months after his conception of the idea, Keys EMS was born.

14. And live the dream he does: the young man who started as a Porsche mechanic now owns a Porsche that he has raced at circuits across the country, often winning awards.

15. Danny’s wife Tammy shares his passion for amateur racing and she like he has won several trophies.

17. And lest we forget to mention, Danny is also a licensed pilot.

18. Danny is a “people person” whose greatest satisfaction comes from helping others, and that is why he decided to run for County Commissioner.

19. But make no mistake about it, Danny is not only a “nice guy” he is also a “tough guy”

20. Danny has the courage to say “No” to the government bureaucrats and special interests.

21. Danny has pledged to be the “fiscal watchdog” on the County Commis- sion, dedicated to ensuring that the taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars are spent wisely and efficiently .

22. And ensuring that there are adequate and necessary financial controls to ensure that waste is minimized and fraud is prevented.

23. “ Government must practice the same fiscal responsibility and cost controls that are necessady for any private sector business to survive.”

24. Danny’s twenty seven years as a successful small businessman has taught him the skills and judgment that are absolutely necessary to keep control of the county’s purse-strings.
