A non-profit organization that was
founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy
Shriver (1921-2009), sister of former
U.S. President John F Kennedy.
The vision took hold in June 1962 when
Eunice Kennedy Shriver started a
summer day camp for young people with
intellectual disabilities at her
home to explore their capabilities in
a variety of sports and physical
activities.

It features challenging and inspiring
international competition among
thousands of athletes, making it the
world's second-largest sports event,
after the Olympic Games.
The culmination of years of athletic
training and competition, the World
Games bring together adults and
children with intellectual disabilities
to compete on the world's great

Slogan
“Together We Can” means “We, People with and without disabilities strive together”.

Emblem
The emblem of the 2013 Pyeongchang Special Olympics Winter Games, which will
be hosted at Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do, shows an image of running dynamically
and vividly under the concept of passion and joy. The yellow color symbolizes hope
and happiness, pink symbolizes love and passion, green symbolizes conviction and
clean energy, while blue symbolizes the vision for the future. It expresses the bright
vision of the future through the passion and unity of enrea and Gangwon-do, and
through the successful hosting of an Olympics of cooperation.

Games Emblem & Mascot

Mascots
'Ra' is a blue bear symbolizing one and only, sun, god-like existence
, and the highest position. Ra is kind and reliable, and has strong
loyalty and belief, while spreading happiness with its warmth given
by the rainbow god. It is the trustworthy gatekeeper of the Special
Olympics. It protects the safety, consideration and athletes of the
Special Olympics. Wielder of ice, the red sheep

'In' is a sheep of passion with red fur that represents welcome and
greeting. It lived in a sheep ranch in Daegwallyeong, but was later
given the power of hope by the rainbow god and has become a
missionary of hope for the Special Olympics. It welcomes guests
with a bright and clear heart and smile. It represents unbiased
exchange, love and interest. The playful green sheepdog, 'Bow'

Mascots are animals representing Gangwon province, which are Asiatic
black bear, sheep, and sheepdog.
Three different animal friends are going to show their courage of
participating in winter sports.

'Bow' is a green sheepdog that represents greeting, welcome,
friendship and love. It was born as a green sheepdog by the power
of the nature of Pyeongchang, and it received the power of the
rainbow god to become the brain for the spirit and challenge of
sports. It has an active and confident personality, and its aim is to
provide a safe sporting event. It spreads confidence, challenge, and
the green nature of Pyeongchang

the Games will create and use non-sports activities to unite people throughout Korea in the celebration of
the spirit of Special Olympics and the achievement of people with intellectual disabilities.

Welcome! Supporters and Bloggers
Work of Student Supporters and Special Bloggers of the Special Olympics
World Winter Games PyeongChang 2013 officially kick off.
32 college Student Supporters and 8 Special Bloggers were welcomed at the
ceremony held in Gangwon Province Hall on May 31st.
They will launch various PR activities including creating and distributing
promotion video of the Games, capturing stories of the Special Olympics
athletes, daily monitoring of the Games, and bridging between people with
and without intellectual disabilities until the end of the Games period.

In January 2013, approximately 15,000 people including 2,300 athletes wi
th intellectual disabilities, team officials, media staff and their family
members from 111 participating countries will visit PyeongChang, from
the Republic of Korea!
They are willing to come to Korea because they want to participate in
the 2013 PyeongChang Special Olympics World Winter Games. The
reason why Special Olympics is unique is not just because of the athletes
with intellectual disabilities, but because of the fact that it has great
Impact when it comes to providing the place to see, enjoy and feel the
true courage and triumph.
Therefore, I am even more proud and pleased to have them as friends
of Special Olympics.

The vision took hold in June 1962 when Eunice Kennedy Shriver started a summer day camp for young people with intellectual disabilities at her home to explore their capabilities in a variety of sports and physical activities. Goals It features challenging and inspiring international competition among thousands of athletes, making it the world's second-largest sports event, after the Olympic Games. Emblem The emblem of the 2013 Pyeongchang Special Olympics Winter Games, which will be hosted at Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do, shows an image of running dynamically and vividly under the concept of passion and joy. The yellow color symbolizes hope and happiness, pink symbolizes love and passion, green symbolizes conviction and clean energy, while blue symbolizes the vision for the future. It expresses the bright vision of the future through the passion and unity of enrea and Gangwon-do, and through the successful hosting of an Olympics of cooperation. 6
  • 7. Special Olympics World Winter Games Pyeong Chang 2013 Games Emblem & Mascot Mascots 'Ra' is a blue bear symbolizing one and only, sun, god-like existence , and the highest position. Ra is kind and reliable, and has strong loyalty and belief, while spreading happiness with its warmth given by the rainbow god. It is the trustworthy gatekeeper of the Special Olympics. It protects the safety, consideration and athletes of the Special Olympics. Wielder of ice, the red sheep 'In' is a sheep of passion with red fur that represents welcome and greeting. It lived in a sheep ranch in Daegwallyeong, but was later given the power of hope by the rainbow god and has become a missionary of hope for the Special Olympics. It welcomes guests with a bright and clear heart and smile. It represents unbiased exchange, love and interest. The playful green sheepdog, 'Bow' Mascots are animals representing Gangwon province, which are Asiatic black bear, sheep, and sheepdog. Three different animal friends are going to show their courage of participating in winter sports. 'Bow' is a green sheepdog that represents greeting, welcome, friendship and love. It was born as a green sheepdog by the power of the nature of Pyeongchang, and it received the power of the rainbow god to become the brain for the spirit and challenge of sports. It has an active and confident personality, and its aim is to provide a safe sporting event. It spreads confidence, challenge, and the green nature of Pyeongchang 7

Supporters and Bloggers Work of Student Supporters and Special Bloggers of the Special Olympics World Winter Games PyeongChang 2013 officially kick off. 32 college Student Supporters and 8 Special Bloggers were welcomed at the ceremony held in Gangwon Province Hall on May 31st. They will launch various PR activities including creating and distributing promotion video of the Games, capturing stories of the Special Olympics athletes, daily monitoring of the Games, and bridging between people with and without intellectual disabilities until the end of the Games period. 10

Special Olympics World Winter Games Pyeong Chang 2013 In January 2013, approximately 15,000 people including 2,300 athletes wi th intellectual disabilities, team officials, media staff and their family members from 111 participating countries will visit PyeongChang, from the Republic of Korea! They are willing to come to Korea because they want to participate in the 2013 PyeongChang Special Olympics World Winter Games. The reason why Special Olympics is unique is not just because of the athletes with intellectual disabilities, but because of the fact that it has great Impact when it comes to providing the place to see, enjoy and feel the true courage and triumph.
