2. GUGLIELMO MARCONI Guglielmo Marconi was born in April 25 th , 1874 near Bologna. He was an Italian inventor, best known for his development of a radiotelegraph system . Marconi began to conduct experiments, building much of his own equipment in the attic of his home.

His goal was to use radio waves to create a practical system of wirless telegraph, the transmission of telegraph messages without connecting wires as used by the electric telegraph In December 10 th 1909, Guglielmo Marconi, only thirty-five, was the first Italian to achieve the Nobel prize, the highest recognition in the field of physic. 4. Giuseppe Garibaldi was born on 4 th July 1807 in the city of Nice. Giuseppe Garibaldi was an Italian military and political figure. In his twenties, he joined the Carbonari Italian patriot revolutionaries, and had to flee Italy after a failed insurrection. Giuseppe Garibaldi

5. He has been dubbed the ''Hero of the Two Worlds'' in tribute to his military expeditions in both South America and Europe. He is considered an Italian national hero. Garibaldi took part in the War of the Farrapos and the Uruguayan Civil War leading the Italian Legion, and afterwards, he returned to Italy as a commander in the conflicts of the Risorgimento.

6. DANTE ALIGHIERI He was an Italian poet of the Middle Ages. He was born in Florence. His DIVINE COMEDY is considered the greatest literary work composed in the ITALIAN LANGUAGE and a masterpiece of world literature, He is known as “THE SUPREME POET” ... Dante is also called the “Father of the Italian language”.

7. THE DIVINE COMEDY Describes Dante's journey through HELL, PURGATORY, PARADISE ... . ..guided first by roman poet Virgilio and then by Beatrice, The subject of his love. Dante wrote the Comedy in a new Language that he called “ITALIAN”, Based on the regional dialect of Tuscany.

8. Giacomo Puccini was born in Lucca (22 nd December 1858) and he died in Brussels (29 th November 1924). He was the most famous Italian opera composer after Verdi. He wrote 16 operas, most of which are performed very often today. GIACOMO PUCCINI

9. Puccini was born into a musical family. He began play the organ in churches near Lucca. But he wanted to be an opera composer. Manon Lescaut was his first important opera. This allowed Puccini to became internationally famous. Other important operas are: La Bohéme; Tosca; Madame Butterfly; Turandot.

10. Her voice has distictive timbre and great power, in fact host Mario Riva entitled her “Queen of Screamers”. In her performances, Mina combined several modern styles with traditional Italian melody and swing music, making her the most versatile Italian singer. Anna Maria Mazzini, known as Mina, is an Italian pop singer.

11. For her extravagant gestures and body snakes gained her another nickname: “Tiger of Cremona”. Mina's TV appearances in 1959 presented the first female rock and roll singer in Italy In the late 1960s, she started her collaboration with the Italian composer Lucio Battisti. Top Italian songwriters created material with large vocal range and unusual chord progression to showcase her singing skills, particulary “Brava” by Bruno Canfora (1965). Mina has recorded 77 albums and 71 singles in Italian charts. Mina gave up with public appearances in 1978 while she has continued to release popular albums on a yearly basis to date.

12. FABIO CANNAVARO Fabio Cannavaro was born on 13 th September 1973, in Naples, Italy. He is an Italian World Cup-winning footballer who plays for Juventus, in the Italian Serie A
