The roots of Judaism can be traced to a covenant between God and the Jewish people through the prophets Abraham and Moses. Key events in Jewish history include the Holocaust, destruction of the Second Temple which changed Judaism from temple-oriented to synagogue-oriented, and WWII where most of Europe's Jewish population was killed. Modern Judaism includes Orthodox branches that follow the Torah literally and Progressive branches that reinterpret the Torah for modern times.

2. The roots of Judaism can be
traced to a covenant

permanent relationship with
the Jews.
 This was through the
prophet Abraham who is
seen as the father of the
Jewish people and then the
prophet Moses who was
given the Torah law on
Mount Sinai by God.

Progressive
 They believe in the divine inspiration of the
Torah
Since it was recorded by humans at a certain
point in history, it then became necessary to
reinterpret the words in the context of present
day times.
Includes:
Reform Judaism – established in early
19thCentury
Liberal Judaism – originally an offshoot of
Reform
