- Pune Professional Chapter Information: 1st Professional chapter in India 20 professionals from Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant & others including entrepreneurs Non Profits Assignments Undertaken 2008-09 Hinjewadi Traffic Optimization Project (HTO) –A new IT park that employs 55,000 people and is expected to grow to 800,000 professionals has put a significant strain on the streets of Pune. Motivated to improve traffic, reduce casualties, promote a stress-free commute, and reduce the city’s carbon footprint, the Net Impact Pune Professional Chapter set out to address the problem. The chapter completed a comprehensive study of commuting needs and developed recommendations to improve the situation. One of their findings showed that while as many as 44 percent use personal vehicles, 57 percent of the drivers would be willing to switch to public transit if options were improved.In June, the team presented to corporate leaders, government dignitaries, leading NGOs, and the professional community of Pune. According to chapter president Ikshwaku Sharma, the Pune local Transport Authority will be taking steps to move forward with their recommendations, which has generated a lot of enthusiasm and energy in the community and national press coverage in The Times of India. - Our Community Impact programs encourage members to utilize their leadership and business skills to help local nonprofits Board Fellows serve as visiting members on nonprofit boards to bring valuable business skills to nonprofits Service Corps volunteers engage in short-term, part-time consulting projects for local nonprofit organizations related to marketing, business planning/operations, and strategic planning. For example, the India School of Business Net Impact chapter donated time to a local NGO to help build a business proposal to channelize the micro-credit movement to the disabled in the rural areas. Through our local chapters, Net Impact is using the power of our network of 15,000+ graduate students and professionals to expand these programs nationally and internationally
