Project founded by the European Union in the framework of ENPI CBCMED Program
From soil and water to
Food for the soul
Description
______________________________________________________
The CLC BIOCrete overlooks the Libyan Sea and the shores where Zeus and Europa have
created the Minoan civilization. It is located at the central South coast of Crete, Greece
We will guide our visitors through a cultural landscape with the artefacts of thousands of years
of civilisation and a landscape of unique beauty assembling the rich biodiversity of the
Mediterranean landscape
Crete is called since the ancient time of Hippocrates “The island of the healing herbs”
Our itineraries and seminars present the
interconnections of water and soil and health
food on culture and its opportunities for
sustainable tourism. With two topic oriented
participatory itineraries with seminars and round
tables we explore and document the
harmonization of the natural environment with
human needs.
Seminars will take place in the CLC BIOCrete;
information material for all topics and excursions will be provided, Tangible natural and cultural
monuments highlight the potentials of sustainable tourism. Participants have the opportunity to
cooperate and co-create remediation activities in forest fire follow up landscapes as well as in
cultivation and plantation of Cretan herbs and spices. Throughout the stay, we will exchange
knowledge concerning the specific regional circumstances of the participants and discuss the
proposed measures to foster sustainability in a participatory approach.
Know how to increase land use values is our contribution to intergenerational equity
Project founded by the European Union in the framework of ENPI CBCMED Program
A special highlight will be the hikes to the
CLC BIOCrete wild life area, a unique place
in the MED, designed to grow with self-
sufficient water supply.
We experience land management and water
harvesting grown over time in a tangible scenario.
The area shows the effects of integrated water
management in semi-arid coastal areas and its
potential for replication around the MED basin with
its similar climate conditions. We show
opportunities to improve land use values in
degraded cultural landscapes.
We invite you to participate and co-create in our
activities to preserve culture in a
thriving time..
We
invite
you to smell the perfume of a flowering landscape
and to taste its products whilst you learn to use
them for the best of your health and for the best
of intergenerational equity

We offer our guests a natural history trip through the relations between man and
the environment over 6000 thousand years. We travel through time and discuss
with tangible examples the outcome of human activities on the physical
environment and vice versa, the outcome of the changed physical environment
on human health. The Mediterranean cultures set the cornerstones for the
philosophy of today’s western world. It shows in its outcome, that this is
extremely dangerous for life on earth. The Mediterranean needs sustainability,
the world needs sustainability.
