Hosting the 2007 Pan American Games was a great success for Rio. We learned many lessons about providing transport services for a major event. We will take these lessons and apply them to the Rio 2016 Games . Here are some of the successful projects from Pan Am Games. We plan on enhancing them for the Games: First, the Pan Am Lane network. This system consistently provided efficient travel times between venues. It was consistently praised by all the citizens of Rio. Second, the partnerships. All three levels of Government worked closely with the Organizing Committee to deliver the best possible transport Third, the testing of no-car access for spectators, a situation that greatly alleviated traffic. And fourth, providing the Pan Am family transport at the IOC standards. Obviously, the Olympic and Paralympic Games present a different challenge. The Olympic scale is three times larger and we realize the enormity of delivering a successful plan. Hence, we are working on the following improvements and plans: Significant investments in Public Transport and road infrastructure, as well as Rio’s International Airport Noteworthy accessibility improvements in the public transport system as well as in the city in general; and A massive task in planning and delivering Games Family Transport We will be performing all of the above with tight integration and coordination among all stakeholders and transport partners.
